Shore Fishing

Anybody here shore fish? I do all type's of fishing from Shore Fishing, Cliff Fishing, Bottom Fishing etc .... and on occasion's Freshwater Fishing: Here are some pic's of my friend's and I's catches:

Here's my 41lb Skip Jack aka Giant Trevally ... caught on 11' Med/Hvy Ugly Stik, 50lb mainline and a Penn 9500 Spinning Reel was caught in about 4' of water using strip's of fresh cutbait:

My River Snapper about 6lb's caught on a 9' Med/Hvy Ugly Stik 30lb mainline and a Penn 7500 Spinning Reel...used fresh octopus for bait:

My Friend's 67lb Skip Jack aka Giant Trevally ... caught Slide Baiting(Hawaiian Style of Cliff Fishing) Had some Fresh Lobster's in it's stomach:

My Friend Will and his Huge Emperor Snapper:

My Buddy's 77lb Skip Jack aka Giant Trevally Caught on a Cheapo Black Beauty Rod and a cheap Shakespere Reel with 50lb mono...he had to run about 200 yd's while fighting the fish and reeling at the same time....his reel was almost spooled several time's....took about 45min's to bring in....and when our other friend gaffed the Jack his mainline snapped:

These are just some of the catches....I need to scan more pic's from our photo album.

Here's my Yellow Fin Tuna caught while Trolling...didn't get a chance to weigh it but took almost an hour to bring in...was using a Penn International 30 Reel with 30lb Mainline and 150lb Mono Leader on a Shakespere Tiger Rod rated at 50lb class me and my step dad had to take turn's bringing it in....my arm's and back were so sore:

My Buddie's 17lb Jack caught Slide Baiting:

My Buddy Will's Skip Jack ... was skinny and weighed about 40lb's and had 3 small lobster's in it's gut...probably just finished laying egg's...that size would have easily weighed in the 80lb range:

My Buddy and his Coral Trout and Emperor Snapper caught 5 mins apart on the same rod:

I pier and surf fish here in South Carolina for Kings, Spanish, Red drum, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and sharks.

My Fiance has diagnosed me as having CFD. (Compulsive Fishing Disorder)

lol I think that's why the ex left me lol. I would love to try Surf Fishing ... but most area's here are mainly Coral so I do something similar called "Dunking" basicly bottom fishing from a cliff, or the reef, not easy to find sandy area's bedsides the shore line. Went about a week ago but water was too rough, kept catching Big Rock's lol. Here's some recent pic's while trolling.
The Mahi Mahi was caught on the same rod and reel as the yellow fin Tuna .... had 3 strike's that day..1st strike ripped line out and after a few minute's...it snapped my 150lb mono leader, 2nd strike was a Smaller Mahi Mahi but it spit the hookand the 3rd strike I was able to hook up...that was in december after Christmas....then in early Jan...went again...this time my step dad got luck...1st strike was a SKip Jack 28lb's....2nd strike was the Wahoo....3rd strike was a Small Tuna....4th strike smaller Tuna but spit the hook before we could land it...Pic's of the Mahi, Wahoo and Skip Jack...the Tuna was given away before I could take a pic:

one thing to try. have this rig made up ahead of time or carry an extra rod with it made up on . use the little fish your catching for bait.
1 heavy 3 way swivel. 1ft to 18" drop line off of one swivel for weight to attach. attach second line to another swivel and attach hook (use hook big enough for the little fish you are catching) I usually make this line a little longer than the weight line (4-6") off of last 3rd swivel this is your leader line to a barrel swivel, this is the attachment point to the pole line (I use a coastlock swivel here to swap rigs easily on and off the pole)

whatever is out there feeding on the baitfish you are catching will sooner or later strike on your rig.

or cut baitfish in half and use a double drop rig. (similar to above but with to bait lines and downsized)

good luck
criss
be prepaied to get spooled tho.

I used to years ago when I lived in New Orleans

It was great fun to go over to Biloxi (that was before any gambling casinos) and fish through the night.

I still remember that wonderful breeze coming in off the Gulf of Mexico.

You and me both. Until about 20 years ago, when I lived in Charleston, I used to fish for drum with cut mullet at Folly Island. I used a 30lb line at night during the winter months and did pretty good. cb appears to be using a lot more line and a lot more rod than what I had. 30lbs was it for me and considered a lot in our area. I usually had two or three rods going at once while I tried to stay warm with a little Rock & Rye. Sheephead and Spadefish where pretty popular around Charleston Harbor out between Fort Sumter and the jetties at the harbor entrance as you go out to sea. I didn't trust my Chrysler 120 in those waters so I went out with a friend and did well there too except during shrimp season. I was a "net casting fool" every chance I got when the shrimp were running.

I'd probably need something warmer than a 1/2 pint of Rock & Rye to surf fish in your area.

I fish Folly pier for the kings amd spanish (big sharks, 6' +, capitolize on the free live bait offerings even tho your not allowed to shark fish from the pier). surf fish North folly near the last jetties and sea wall for big reds (this time of year) or an occasional trip to Fort Moltrie. my days off right now are not matching up with the best of weather systems the past couple weeks.

one nice red from last season:

PS, this was the Harvest moon (full moon, last October 28th) and still in shorts. the waters a bit cool, but the fishing is hot.

Man that looks fun. Around here you have to take a 6 hour trip to the canyons to get any mahi, or tuna. the best we get is the occasional skipjack that will run within a few miles of shore. That place looks like a spear fishing dream.
