Talking I love it when stores mis-mark the price on ammo.

I went to Meijer and was looking at the ammo. I usually don't buy ammo from there but I couldn't pass this one up. They had 15 pack Winchester rifled slugs for a 20ga. They marked them for $6.99 a box. That would explain why there was only 3 boxes left on the shelf. I got to the check out line and they rang up $12.99 a box. They had to give them to me for the marked price! I know not really exciting but I am really happy and had to tell someone. lol

If the store sells ammo or sporting goods I always look. It doesn't matter if I intend to buy or not, sometimes it pays off.

Several years back, I got raked over the coals for posting about having bought a scope at Wally's for half normal price - it had been mismarked! Some guys seemed to think I 'cheated' the store or sumthin'......

Hey, if they make a mistake, and we can get a break - GO FOR IT!!

Prices these days are totally out of proportion with common sense.

Yeah, on one of the 1911 forums some guy told about buying 100-rd .45 WWB at WalMart that was priced at $2.98 instead of $29.98, and he bought up all they had. That poor s.o.b. was really crucified by a bunch of self-righteous a-holes that called him a thief and all kinds of other things. IMO, he got a product for the price that was put on that product, period. HE didn't price the stuff or enter the price/bar code info into the store's system. He just stumbled onto a great deal.

And I'd bet money that every one of the a-holes that chastised him would have done exactly the same thing! I don't care how self-righteous, honest, upstanding and sanctimonious a person is, a great deal is a great deal! If someone makes a pricing mistake and you get to benefit from it, well, yeehaw! Not the same thing as a clerk mis-counting your change, IMO.

OK, the worm can has been opened, let the flaming begin........

If an individual like a cashier gives me to much money back that's one thing. I would without a doubt be honest about it. I have a family member that works at Krogers. He said there's is almost nothing in the store that is not marked up at least 40%. I don't feel a bit bad about it.

I was following behind a lady in the store once, and as she turned towards the exit I proceeded ahead but noticed she had dropped something. I picked it up and it was a small envelope of $20 bills. That instant of greed was overcome quickly and I chased her down to return it. She insisted on me keeping $20. Once back in the store, I walked passed a young couple sorting food items in their cart. They had shopped too much and were deciding which items to put back. So I handed them the $20 and said here ya go. I bought the items I needed and left the store, only to find out that my truck had a flat !! I looked towards heaven, and said, now THAT's a GOOD one !!

stores like walmart and most other retailers are supposed to sell for the price marked not the price rung up, and if that's wrong to some people i don't want it to be right

I guess it's going to sound hypocritical, but I'd do that in a minute at WallyWorld. I'd never do it at a locally owned store or my usual shooting supply place.

I figure WallyWorld sells stuff at a loss until they drive local competition for the same item out of business, so I help them take the loss. I also only use plastic there since the plastic costs them an extra 3% or so, but only use cash with my locally owned stores. Rubbermaid was driven down the tubes partly through WalMart marketing techniques. They used to have their world headquarters here and the loss hurt the area pretty badly. Several local family owned stores have closed from the Walmart pressure. Sure, they give money to some communities, but they are also doing BETTER in these tough times instead of suffering like everyone else. Don't tell me it's fair competition -- they purposely set out to shut down local competition then limit choices and control prices.

I think the best thing either adminstration could do for the economy is to bring anti-trust action against WalMart, the world's largest retailer.

Sorry for the rant, the place just annoys me. And yes, I buy stuff there, but only things I think they might be selling for a loss -- things like grape juice that's $1.00 less on a $3.50 item than the local grocery chain.

My philosophy is simple. Other people's money is theirs. Give it back to them if you know who they are.

If a clerk makes a mistake giving me change or ringing something up wrong, I'll tell them about it because I don't need the bad karma of taking advantage of them.

If a store mismarks an item at a lower price, I'll point it out and see what they do. In every case they've sold me the item at the mismarked, lower price, but took action to correct it.

Recently I picked up a Winchester multi-handgun hardcase for peanuts. I wasn't really shopping for one, but when I saw the price I grabbed it and took it to the register. I pointed out their mistake, even showed them that they had the wrong manufacturer on the price tag. Their response was "that's the price in the system." I walked out of the store with a four-gun hardcase for 1/10th the price. When I went back a few days later, they were all gone.

I just went to Walmart to refill my Scrips, and they gave me two month's worth instead of one for the same price. Now I have a month's extra to put in my survival kit. That is the third mistake they have made in 6 mos. Last time they gave me birth control pills instead of Co-Reg. Their mistake, not my problem.

I'm guilty of it myself but no matter how I slice it.........it's not right. I should have had them double check it. Just because WalMart is a multi billion dollar company doesn't make them any different than a Mom and Pop. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If it happens again to me I hope I'll do the right thing.

Maybe that flat tire stopped you from being at the wrong place at the right time. Karma moves in unseen ways.
You did the right thing when no one was looking, that's what counts.

In Topeka, all three Walmart locations always have the "special" people working the sporting goods section. I know they lose tons of money back there just because of the mistakes they make. I tried being honest and could not convince the person they were wrong - so I gave up and took my good deal. I figure it's easier than really confusing them. With the money that store makes, if they don't have qualified people working their departments, it shouldn't have to be an effort for me to get charged correctly.

I bought a nice sweater one time that was marked $3.00.I could believe it so I took it up to the checkout and she told it had to be priced wrong. It was $30.00 and all of them on the rack were priced $3.00.They tried their best to get me to pay the full price but I didn't back down.

Actually this happened just this past weekend to me as well. My wife and I always by ammo for each other for stocking stuffers. The local wal-mart did not have bricks of the 22 ammo my wife's P-22 likes. So I went over to Dick's Sporting goods and they had them for $19.99. That is higher than I normally pay for them at Wal-mart but oh well it is the holiday's. When I got to the register, they rang up $16.99, which is was a little cheaper than what they are at Wal-Mart. I didn't say a thing and walked out of the store.

Perhaps, but Walmart is very different from Mom and Pop. Walmart is out to rule retail at the expense of every Mom and Pop out there. Mom and Pop are trying to make a living for themselves and their employees. They care about their community and support it whenever they can, whereas Wallyworld does what looks good to the public but only for the good P.R. it brings them.

Walmart pressures suppliers cut quality and cost to meet their demands. Look up "The Man who said No to Walmart" and read the story. Any organization that is that arrogant deserves a little payback now and then. They always brag about "the lowest price" and sometimes when they're right about that, I buy their stuff. I was in there today checking prices on a couple of items I intended to buy elsewhere and they were $1 higher than MC Sports on a $10 item. Lowest Price? Hah!
