TY guys, unfortunately it does not take the AK mags but I'm thinking about finding a filler-type block thing to stick in there so it will take the AK mags who knows though. I may just get the US-made bolt that allows you to take off a mag and put a new one in without opening the bolt.

Hey Larmus, let me know how that scope on the gas tube works. Seems like it would be shakey at best. Nice looking rifle though. $350 for both sounds like you got quite a deal.

Joker, in short, every shell deflector will interfere with your ability to use stripper clips. However there is a shell deflector that simply snaps onto your rear sight and you could pop that off and on as you are loading... however taking another step and I am sure like everything else, the more you remove and put back into place it will start falling off on its own. This being said, those are really cheap at cheaper than dirt or other sites so???? up to you. Personally I have never used that particular one. If you use the clear lense cover on the scope, you will probably save the lense from potential scratches, but... the biggest problem isnt broken or scratched lenses it is busted cross hairs from the impact of the spent round against the scope body itself. And we all know how those shells can fly out of the SK!
Archetype, I gotta agree with Larmus! You gotta be a single dude with that dirty room LOL just kidding! To my knowledge the only AK47 magazine accepting SKS is thetype M, the D may take them too, but someone more knowledgeable here would have to tell you. I dont know of anyone who has rigged up something to accept them with much success and from what I have read only VERY limited success. IMHO its not worth the effort, when if you want after market magazines, just buy SKS magazines.

I personally don't like plastic magazines. I have a tapco OD green one that matches the tapco OD green furniture I installed, but it doesnt want to feed right, so it looks cool while holding my bolt back for good cleanings. I use the higher end metal mags and personnally only use the 20 round mags... 20 rounds to a box and doesnt interfere with my bipod... but thats just me and thats the beauty of SK's everyone can make them what they want to suit THIER needs and wants!
Joker, if that OE fixed box is workin' and you are proficient with the strip clips, leave it be... it WAS designed to use that system! Scopes are pretty cheap actually for no more of a range than the SK has, so if a weird accident happens and you bust your cross hairs, you can put another scope on without spending a fortune.

I have a NcStar bipod that quick releases from the barrel mount and I can put it on my rail with my front grip if I need more elevation or just want to take it off to reduce weight from front end... think it was like 30 bucks at CTD.

So you have a Tapco stock then? (because of the mention of the rail)

I love my Yugoslavian that takes AK mags I paid $325 for it. I sure wish I knew why people spend $900 on a Bubba'd old AK
