Thanks Guy's, The hybrid runs flawlessly. unfortunately, like most yugo's the bore is pretty pitted and I figured since I had to weld up the original gas port, if the mod didn't work, it would be no loss. The barrel you see next to it is a mint IMI made 1919 BMG barrel that will get hung on the hybrid with barrel finning from the gas block back. The chrome bore is absolutely magnificent. Ill put up a range report once the next few mods are done. As any of you guys might know about the outstanding FAL FCG internals and the excellent SKS reciever, Im surprised no one has ever put 2+2 together on these battle hardend designs earlier. This baby FAL is a fantastic handleing weapon!
THANKS for your enthusiasam!

xtriggerman is there anyway to get a different barrel for an SKS without the front sight and longer? I was thinking of modding my SKS but keeping alot of the original parts to return it to stock. I got a Norinco and would like to put a scope on the receiver cover mount I got from Dragunov but would like a longer barrel to get a bit more accuracy out of this gun. Thanks man. Also....GREAT GUN!!!

Arch, IMHO, I don't think a longer barrel will do anything to improve your accuracy. On the contrarary the old fraze "short n fat is where its at" can be aplyed to most accuracy improvements. Piston drive guns create barrel whip. This vidio shows you 1 of the worst barrel whip violators...the AK47. The higher the piston is, over the barrel, the more leverage to torque the barrel downward before the bullet leaves the barrel. A longer barrel would simply whip in a greater arch. Iv shot dragonov guns that where worse than short barreled AK's on paper. The SKS (yugo anyway) suffers from a somewhat loose piston tube/gas block combination which led the mil spec gas port to be about 1/8th" (rather Large) in diameter. A large bleed off in a loose system is not good for accuracy. Good thing is the SKS is supperior to the AK with a smaller piston Diam and a as close to the barrel as possible gas system. Your best bet to real it in a bit would be to have the barrel shortened by a half inch and have a heavy sleave type flash surpressor mounted. As for the scope mount thing, It looks like the best system going is the new Weaver #48870 converta mount cut down and mounted the the side of the reciever. Enjoy the vid

I'm a member of another site where the topic is Israeli weapons and they have this "Zen Master Guru" of the Galil who customizes Galil's for all these members and they all rave about his work and posting pics I can see why. Any chance you would consider modifying weapons for others and becomeing the "Jedi Master of the SKS for the Gun and Game crowd??? If you haven't considered it, man I think you should.
Cheers,
S-

Just got my first SKS last week, a C-prefix Yugo M59. Ran 60rds through it this past weekend. Shot flawless and pretty damn accurate. |
