i assume you mean the model 49 chambered in .22wrfm.if so they were produced from 1962-1976,they have a magazine tube for looks only because as you mentioned they were single shot,and a straight grip stock.my friend had one when we were young and we had a blast,no pun intended,shooting that little gun in .22lr and my winchester 67 boys rifle all day for about $1.00.sadly his little rifle was stolen when his home was robbed.it and the winchester are perfect guns for kids to learn about firearms.we would shoot all day without adult supervision in a vacant field.the police would ride by and just wave.can you imagine what would happen in this day and age?

I know this is kind of old, but I joined looking for info on this gun myself.

I had wanted one for years, and finally found one in darn near NIB condition a few weeks ago. A really nice little rifle. I've fired about a half a box of ammo through it, just at targets of opportunity out back. Good little shooter. I had it's big brother, a M-66 SuperSingle 20 ga, my first gun ever. Still have it actually, but it's in my sons gun safe right now.

I was wondering when this one was made. The S/N is 135XXX. I've been told that means after '68 since before that manufacturers weren't required to put S/N's on 22's and such. However, I know I got my M-66 in 1966 or '67 for Christmas, and it has a S/N.

Anyway, here's what a M-49 looks like in case anyone hasn't seen one. I added the Ruger Bearcat to the picture to make a 12 year old kids "dream rig from when I was a kid. Man I would have been in "high cotton" back in those days with a rig like this. I could have "been" Roy, or Paladin for sure.

those are great little guns. I grew up shooting one that my grandmother had and it was loads of fun. In the fall I don't know how many grouse and pheasant I shot in the stack yards with it. They are small enough to fit kids great and I have been looking for another for when my boy gets a little older. Great find with that one, most I have seen have been badly abused, not that any part of them was realy made top quality but there are a few left that have been taken care of and I hope some day I can find one.

Since the OP asked for information about the gun, I should have added the first time that Sears used to sell their own version of the Ithaca 49 under the "Ted Williams" name. The TW gun didn't have the fake magazine tube you see my picture.

I remember seeing them in the sporting goods dept at Eastgate Mall when I was a kid and wanting one. Took me probably 40 years to get one.
