mount scope

Alright, I'm really new to shotguns, and have a question I hope someone could help me with...

I want to put a scope on my Mossberg 500. I think I need to use a Picatinny rail.

There are 4 little screws on the top of the gun
(2 close together toward the rear and then 2 close together towards the barrel--midway point)

Do I need to remove those screws and then put the rail on there?

I just don't want to remove those screws till I know there not holding something together inside the gun?

Thanks in advance for the help

I haven't messed with those screws at all but I am pretty sure they are just for mounting something. I have completely disassembled the receiver for cleaning and I know (am 99% sure) that those don't do anything other than cover up the two mounting holes.
