I guess it would depend on your State. In NC it's yes/no.
You can buy them as a "novelty item" and own them.

But, if you use them on somebody you better have a good lawyer.

Talking

I have one hanging on a hook in my shop, just in case I get hacked off at project I'm making. Been there for 40 years and it's protected my right knuckles every time the board tries to hit me. BTW, I cast it out in a foundary out of molten aluminum.

legal to own not to carry. I wish they would give me back my slap jack. Tasers are cool but all that yelling is offensive, slap jack is just one THUMP! and done.

My friend owns a "belt buckle". That is legal. Spring batons must also be checked against your local laws.

So...what about lead-powder sap-gloves?

Brass knuckles are legal in some states. The mere use of it doesn't guarantee protection though, you have to also know how to use it coz it may break your own hands.

They are illegal in MD. So are the "belt buckles", " heavy paperweights" etc...

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Call your local police and find out, even if they are illegal in your state they could be illegal under your city, town, parish/county code etc.

As much as I like the guys n gals here at gun and game something tells me "Well the nice people on the internet told me it was OK" wont suffice in court if you find yourself in trouble with them at a later date.

In most states they are illegal, just like switch-blade knives are illegal, and in a lot of states, simple martial arts weapons are also illegal.

Oddly enough, back in the day about 20 years ago in California, the penalties for carrying a switch-blade knife were harsher than carrying a gun illegally.

Too many politicians, too many lawyers, equals too many stupid laws that stay on the books for eternity.

If the BG is close enough to punch, you're about 30 seconds late on shooting him !!

Brass knucks are to much hassle...ya never know where/when they might be legal. I prefer a totally legal jack handle or lug wrench....or pick handle...or any of a dozen other tools I can think of offhand that are in my truck. LOL it's amazing what would work as a blunt-force trauma weapon in a pinch aint it!

BTW...I have heard (wouldn't know myself of course) from little birds that a Bic lighter or a roll of quarters/nickels held tightly in the fist packs quite a wallop! Basically anything that solidifys your fist improves the hitting force of your punch.
