This past week I've been in conversations with folks about the prospects of doing some ice/winter fishing...
...and, I'm thinking that's a good idea.
Some years ago I build a really nice ice house from a section of temper tent. It turned out to be a good ice house, from our field tests at Island Park Reservoir, and then it ended up in my brother's possession and I've not seen it since.
Maybe it's time to build another one and head out for some fishing?
Fresh trout, perch, crappie, bass or other catch would sure taste good on the dinner plate...
Man that looks like my kind of fun! Do the guys get to know each other and socialize? Does ice fishing involve fishing in brush or other structure? How deep usually? Sorry about the questions but I'm curious.
I went ice fishing last week. Got 15 small arctic char, which tasted great by the way. It made up a big lunch for 4 adults and my youngest kid (18 months). I didn't take any pictures, but I'll see if I can pull up a pic from earlier trips. I have the largest ice fishing gear dept. in our county in my shop, so I get all the stories from around here! Fishermen are all liars, but who cares, ha ha!
By the way, I think those ice huts are for wankers
Ice fishing for arctic char in Troms, at 69'N. Static air temperature -30F, and there was a noticeable breeze to add to that as well...

livetoshoot my friends round here have all been going for about a month. doing well on local ponds and lakes. also driving to chesterfield and alexandar if you want an adventure. if wasnt laid up like this i would surely be out there. one of the things i like most about winter is ice fishing. that and varmint hunting, neither of which will probably be possible this year.
I love ice fishing! I also like maken some money once the ice gets to thin to drive trucks out on the lake so people hire me to pull there ice houses off of the lakes with my snowmobile. Make some pretty good money that way.

I accidentally went ice fishing yesterday! had a great time of it!
I asked around and was told the ice-over at a local reservoir was particularly light and was not enough to prevent lure fishing. So a buddy and myself headed out. We get down to the reservoir, after the 35 minute hike from where we like to park, and it is completely covered with snow. After testing it with a 35 pound rock, hurled from 25 feet up, we ventured out and made 2 holes with a hatchet. So much for finesse! The ice was only 14 inches thick, but that is about 13.5 inches more then I was told was up there. I was definitely LIED to. Either way we had a great time, got a ton of hits, and listened to the ice swelling and contracting all day. Neat stuff.
I am definitely going to start planning proper ice fishing trips now.

Baser - Only joking with you in the above reply. I can't seem to get my arm to the bottom of a ice chest to get a can of pop in the summer. But I do love to fish. Where are you in Col.? We have young relatives in Carbondale, near Aspen. Visit them in the summer when it is 90 degrees plus in Missouri. Love that state.

I once tried jug lines in Jan. It was cold enough in Oklahoma that the shore line of large rocks and straight up ledges had ice hanging from them. I didn't catch a thing, but I did drill some of the under sides of the rocks and inserted a few I bolts for my lines. I used many of them later that year to anchor other lines to. I love to catfish and snag paddle fish. Oklahoma has them both.
Forty - I am out of Colorado Springs. It is a fair drive from Aspen, about 5 hours if I remember correctly, but it is some pretty country if you take the back roads.
Haha, yeah. I was chuckling at the ridiculousness of my fishing adventure for 2 days myself. Cheap humor is the best.
