If I lived closer to Kansas, I'd enjoy participating...

...so, instead, I'll save the cash for gas to shoot chucks in this area.

I'm interested, I've been in kansas all my 30 years. So yea I should know a place, well sorry I don't. I have been told to look into Morton county. Public land larger than 100,000 acres. So I'm interested, but have a three year old so most likely could not go unless, well I get real lucky and the wife says go. here are some links to stuff I've been saving on Morton County. As for now count me in on wherever we may end up going. Please keep me informed. turboterriers@netzero.net Thanks Jarrod

Wish I could come but its a long way from TN. Use to hunt over towns for beer money in NE when I was a kid and had a great time. Great way to improve your long range skills and it is one hell of a good time

It's been about eight months since I've read into any of this. The easy thing to do is probably just call a game warden in that county, or a nearby county. If its no hunting well I've just woke up from a good dream and have wasted a lot of time sitting at my computer. Originally what I was thinking was shoot prairie dogs during the day and hope that would attract coyotes at night. I do recall the plague has hit a few colonies out west, but don't recall any restrictions on bullets hitting them. I use a free sight and like to look at new hunting ground before driving to it just to have an idea of what the county side is like. In one area I am real sure the images are good enough to see a pretty good size colony. Keep in mind the images are not dated. I've looken in my home town and recalled when a new building was built or road extended etc, thats proof their that these images are not very old. Check it out Flash Earth ...satellite and aerial imagery of the Earth in Flash Its pretty cool for free. It can give road names and also zoom in far enough to make out people, well not in all cities and states. Its printer friendly, but not to any scale of course. Also provides you with longitiude and latitude what else does a person need? Let me know what you think. I'll help you locate something. I'd try to first locate your current location or favorite fishing pond just something.

I'd be up for a little dog town demolition. Ain't had the .264 out in a while.

Checking with County Extention agents or CoOp could turn up some prime areas. Might even put you in touch with landowners with problematic p-dogs.

Well my long time friend and best man contacted me last week, he wants to go blast some dogs in May on some of his family's land. I've got a Kansas public land book from the local gun shop and will most likely check out a few of those places along the way. Well if the trip really happens I'll be sure to keep you informed. Don't anyone get your hopes up, my friend is highly unreliable when it comes to booking a weekend hunting trip. Will see!

Is there any specific P-dog towns in mind? All my hunts involve me driving from the Topeka area all the way out to Wyoming where you can shoot 1000s of p-dogs w/o seeing another soul, thats a bit of a drive though so if anythings local Id like a part in it.

To be legal you would need an out of state hunting license. However, I have never seen a GW in the area of these towns. Your choice. BTW, how is the hog hunting down your way? You can e-mail me direct..pdawg.shooter@gmail.com and I will see it sooner. Thanks, Dennis

I'd LOVE to pop some pasture poodles, but all I have is a single-shot .22, a Ruger 10/22, a Hi-Point carbine in .40, a Mosin Nagant 91/30, a Rem 700 in .30-06, and an M1 in .30-06. I don't really want to buy another rifle in the middle. I'm afraid the .22's are too small, the .40 is too under-powered, and the .30 cal stuff is too big.

Am I wrong? Will any of these do? I'd really like to use the M1, but I'm afraid that's a little overkill. Never shot pasture rats before. God knows there's plenty of them here in Colorado, I'm sure I could find a place with a little effort.

I mostly shoot a .223 or a 25-06 but I have killed a bunch with a 30-06. The recoil gets a bit tiresome after a few hundred rounds. I have even used my 45-70 just for s***s and grins a couple of times. The 300RUM with a 168gr match bullet works great when the range gets waaaaaay out there too.

I agree with coffee, once you smack mom the rest just look around kinda dumb founded, hitting 2 p-dogs at once is a great shot. I have only used .223 and .220 swift which work great and as mentioned dont kill the shoulder after a few hundred rounds. I have shot on private land in CA and WY and never had an out of state hunting license, and have never been asked to show one.
