Florida: Teachers should be allowed to carry guns

Why then do we deprive teachers of their basic right to self-defense?Take the question further. If it involved self-defense at a school campus, the lives of our children are probably at stake as well â?? and we're going to expect teachers to protect our children with what? A textbook?

I just can't help thinking about the incidents that were minimized by a CCW holder dropping the looney tunes before they could get going. How far would that kid at Virginia Tech have gotten if the teachers had been armed? Or those two crackpots at Columbine? The Supreme Court has ruled that the police are under no obligation to protect individuals, merely the larger society. If that is the case - and the Supreme Courts has said that it is - it means individuals are responsible for their own protection. I'm all in favor of a teacher who is properly licensed and trained in concealed carry carrying in the classroom.

If nothing else, it wil insure the students have good classroom manners!

Or what? They'll shoot the disruptive student? Why do teachers need guns in Florida schools to begin with? Has school house violence gotten completely out of hand?
Since most teachers across the country are older women, I seriously doubt they would have anything near the kind of training or mental discipline to shoot any person, let alone an armed student. If your school district violence is out of hand, hire an armed guard. Maybe Blackwater USA can supply someone. That is, if you don't mind having bystanders shot too.
Around here, we have a police officer in our secondary schools, called a liason(sp) officer but is probably there as a guard.

I believe it should be the choice of the teacher. After all, It's their safety too.

I think if they seek out the training they should be able to carry just like all of us should be able to carry weather we work for the state/fed or private businesses

Yes they should be able to. Also college students who hold CCW should also be able to.

Thumbs up

As a former educator, I definitely believe all school personell who qualify for CCW's should be allowed to carry, in school or out. Age/gender, etc. has nothing to do with it. It's their 2nd Amendment right.

If not allow the teachers, then allow a certain few within each school to carry? Most high schools, or should I say high schools in certain areas already have metal detectors and security guards. If those don't already carry guns, and seeing as how they're already concerned about it by having and using metal detectors and security guards, then they should also allow those security guards to carry, and if not them, teachers or administrators who want to and are willing to train and take safety courses to do so.

As for those high schools that don't have metal detectors and or security guards and if there's a concern to the point there's talk of teachers or anyone for that matter, wanting, needing or considering having a gun on them, well then maybe then someone should at the very least look into it deeper?

But then I look at it this way also. If my child went to a school, that had armed teachers or security guards, whatever or whomever they were, other then trained off or on duty police officers, then what I'd want is those carrying, no matter who they are, to have to train and take safety courses on a regular basis just like a police officer, if not more often. The last thing I want is someone with a gun around my child that is not safe with it and more importantly, not confident with it! That is just an accidental shooting waiting to happen. And I wouldn't want that to happen to my or anyone elses child.

As times get worse, things will undoubtedly get worse. Waiting until then to do something about it or before taking the proper steps to do something about it will be too late. But then, as they say, better late then never, right...

There is and will continue to be plenty of argument on and from and to argue about both sides of this. And honestly any more school shootings will only give both sides more to argue about and over, and the sad facts of the matter will be, innocent people, children and teachers alike, will be dying in the meantime, while the arguing continues...
