my when the SHTF shotgun tactical loadout vest

tactical shotgun loadout
hey folks i joined this site because i think the **** is going to hit the fan sometime soon and i kinda wanted some help from people who know what the hell they are doing.

well in my **** hits the fan scenario i have some gear lined up that i will bring with me on my travel to where ever god takes me.

i have a blackhawk shotgun loadout vest it has 2 large pockets for holding shotgun shells. each of them being able to hold 14 shells each. 2 large pockets on the other side and one medium pocket above them located right below the shoulder. on the shoulders i have 1 small pocket.(sized for handheld gps or cellphones maybe small radio or pistol clip) the vest also has 2 pockets on the inside. these pockets run close to the body so i suspect they are for holding papers such as maps documents and if you wish cash. also has a place to hook your belt into. and i have done that with an old od green military belt i found in my basement

what i have on this is a survival knife (the ones wiith the hollowhandle and stuff inside),a samurai tanto(dagger i have a more modern one built for combat or so the ad said),i have 1 pocket full of 12gauge shells and the other one will be filled too once i go get more ammo. in the small shoulder pocket i have lighters. in the medium pocket i have a small first aid box with plenty of stuff in it. on the back i have a scabbard for my shotgun and it was customized to fit an 18 inch barrel

i have plenty more survival gear for when the **** hits the fan but i am just detailing the tacvest i have.

anything else i need to put on it.any hints or sugestions

i cant have a pistol (legally)i'm not 21 and i plan to get a camel back hydration system. and posibly a radio pouch for the back

i know i'm a total mall ninja lol

this is my vest setup... since you cant own a hand gun yet if your vest has mag holsters , you can put pocket knifes or multitools or a miriad of items into them...

on the back:
hydration pack
dump pouch with 50rnds 12g

in the front:
dump pouch with odds and ends (this is where the holster was attached)
three clips .45 in triple pouch
guthook/skinner over mini pouch attached to it are 6 rnds 12g
since im set up for 12g in two of the mag pouches i have a total of 24 12g and the other pouch is a military 90degree light w/lenses
50' 550 para-cord
in mini-pouch :multitool, thumb operated pocket knife

on belt:
.45 w/ clip in weapon and one extra
4 extra clips in double stack pouch
canteen
main knife w/ mini-survival kit
drop leg w/ two more pouches
-one has survival kit the other has gloves and balaclava

if need be, i can carry 30 12g rnds on or in weapon and i have 2 25rnd 12g so i can have a grand total of 110 12g rnds at my disposal...

this is also in conjuction with all my other gear and ammo... use what ya want and good luck with your set up i hope this helps...

my vest is set up for a shotgun as well... my magazines for the handgun are in the mag pouches built for the handgun and in the mag pouches originaly made for the assult rifles i have made my own holders for shotgun shells...

an SKS's primary loading feature is a fixed ten rnd mag that is loaded via stripper clips, they can be converted to take a detachable mag and some even came with an ak style detachable mag... but NO SKS takes an AR-15 mag...

My rifles are across the country in my brothers safe till I get back to Wa. So if it comes down to it I'll use my .40 s&w or my truck to get a long gun.

Always bring a firestarting kit and water purification tablets. Once your personal security needs are met, your most important items are potable water and shelter (or heat source). An extra canteen is always useful as well.

Is your 1st aid kit designed for gunshot wounds? If not make it happen. If the "survival knife" is some cheap rambo knockoff get rid of it. No need to carry extra weight that isn't good quality. I believe you already have a tanto combat knife right? Get a multi tool like a Leatherman or a Gerber. They are essential. Definitely add the camelback and/or canteens. If you can add a buttpack to the belt do it. You can store gloves, balaclavas, ammo, MRE's, socks, etc.

I have 3 lines of gear. I'd carry one of my AR's with an IDF 2-point sling if I needed to carry a rifle around.

1st line gear is my everyday stuff...Wilderness Instructors 5-stitch belt, M-tac holster for my XD40, spare pistol mag carrier, gerber knife, surefire light, mini-bic lighter (not a smoker-for fire making applications).

2nd line gear is for emergency action needs...V-tac 5.11 series molle chest carrier system, holds 4 extra 30rd AR15 mags and 2 extra springfield pistol mags, compass and map and some energy bars. This can be worn over everyday wear and rides high enough to allow shooting from prone with no affects on correct posture.

3rd line gear is for packing out lots of gear. I have a Northface internal backpack with ??? thousands of cubic inches of space. I've used this pack in the rockies and along trails in New England and everywhere in between.
My 2nd line Vtac vest can be worn with my 3rd line gear along with my carbine slung with the IDF sling. The backpack carries my extra gear: food, water, supplies, etc. It also carries 4-5 more AR mags.

So one 30rd AR mag in the rifle, 4 more 30rd mags on the tac-vest with a XD40 locked and loaded with 3 extra mags on my immediate person with extras in my 3rd line backpack. With this loadout I can easily carry up to ten 30rd mags (300rds of ammo: 150rds directly ready to go) and about 40rds of pistol ammo for my secondary weapon ready to go while being able to carry all my essential gear.

The benefit of the 3 line system is that you can scale up or down the needed level of gear. Go with just 1st line gear for everyday blending in/walking around unobtrusively...2nd line gear if staying nearby home but need a rifle with some tactical looking gear ready to go, all 3 if I need to bug out on foot at which point the 3rd line gear can be ditched if I need to be more mobile with just the 2nd or 1st line gear.

The sling works fine as it is only around my neck...or you can carry it in a traditional sling manner with muzzle up on one shoulder (slightly askew to make room for the pack shoulder straps) or I can stow it it more securely with the attachment points on the back of my backpack (most comfortable but least accessible).

The single point slings are fine if your just standing around all day or doing some very basic shooting drills/rifle range use. Try walking around with one...*hint* they have a tendency to repeatedly smack you in your "junk" down there because of how they make the rifle fall on your body (imagine trying to run/jog)and if you are doing any fast rifle to secondary transitions, lowering the rifle to pick up your handgun will result in a swinging rifle pendulum effect ending again with a hard smack right into your junk.

The basic thing I've learned is that no one piece of gear should ever carry everything (mags, food, water, dry socks, etc). Just like dressing for the outdoors, layers are needed to adjust to the changing environments. Having 3 lines of gear accomplishes this very succinctly in my experiences.

my loadout

OK heres what I have setup for my SHTF situation. First my gobag which has spare boxes of ammo for my 9mm, 40 cal, and my shotgun. Protein bars, socks, flashlight, magnesium firestarter, 3pack emergency blankets, compass, maps for my state and three bordering states, batteries, water purification tablets, rope, coffee filters (for filtering water prior to purification), and a medium field medic pack. I also got a suggestion to get rubber door stoppers. If your in a bad situation they are a good way of securing a door you have come through. They can be overcome fairly easily but not without making some noise. Gives you a better chance to know if someones coming. On my tac vest i have the following: upper left has 3 mag pouches 2 with mags and 1 with a multitool. lower left has a crossdraw holster with a glock 23. Upper right has my small 2-way radio with scan (so I can hear any potential radio traffic and find other people), and a pouch with a magnesium firestarter and water purification tabs. Lower right has a light holder with a medium sized light, next to that a small pouch with emergency med gear. It has some asprin, bandaids, alcohol, kurlex, 4x4 pads, neosporin, scissors and tape. Next to that is an assault rifle mag holder but I usually keep my gps and a couple smaller maps in it. On my right leg is my PT99 9mm in a thigh holster. It has 2 extra mag holders on it as well. On my left let is a 7 inch Ka-bar fighting knife. Black BDU pants and shirt. Over my shoulder is a mossberg 500 security. Some people say 2 handguns is unneccessary but I feel better to have a backup and I like that I can have my choice of caliber I want to use. Plus it makes me more versitile if I have to locate ammo later. A little paranoid but better safe than sorry. I don't know whats going to happen, civil war, terrorists, zombies, but I'm prepared for whatever.

I've got a Rhodesian type chest rig for FN magazines with four loaded mags for a total of 80 rounds. This will accomodate my FN rifle.

Then a backpack with spare supplies in it.

The SKS is chambered in 7.62x39mm and nearly always features an internal 10 round box magazine. Some Chinese ones were sold on the export market that takes AK mags, but NO SKS will take AR-15 "Magazines" or feed from the 10 round stripper clips for the AR mags.
