"One man died and another man was critically injured Tuesday night after they tried to break into a house near Olmos Park and were met with gunfire.
The men, both in their mid-20s, kicked open the door at a house in the 100 block of Horace Street around 11:30 p.m. and entered, said San Antonio Police Sgt. John Slaughter. A resident in the home fired several rounds at the intruders with a handgun. "
May I add that "Sgt. John Slaughter" is a totally kickass name for any LEO.
Also, "Across the country, justified homicides are up, according to recent reports.
The latest incidents followed a year in which San Antonio's justified homicides more than doubled from seven in 2007 to 17 in 2008."
Huh, more gun owners? More attempted robberies? I wish they'd included more specific figures.
Well, it's good news that the bad guys are on the recieving end, now. Hopefully, someone will notice that, and come to the conclusion that it's good that law abiding folks have the right to defend themselves, rather than be murdered in their own homes!
Impressive that it was a 17 year old that stopped the intruders. Got em before they could even lift their weapons. This is just amazing. He'll definitely have problems for shooting and killing those two, but I bet he's sure glad he did before they could get to him.
Something interesting for me to look up now. How old do you have to be to be protected under the castle law doctrine, and will there be any repercussions of the parents because the 17 year old had access to the gun.
Haha, these comments are funny. True Texas mentality working there.
I do think the victim is in a gang as well. I mean, their ages are so close and he was prepared. But he was not in the wrong this time.
Reminds me of a few years ago, when my cattle dog/coyote cross named Petey followed my boys out of the yard. A teenager thought it would be funny to run run into Petey with his bicycle, and send him sprawling.
But it was even funnier when Petey jumped back up, latched onto his leg, and dragged him off the bicycle.
There was a fair amount of hard feelings and legal carryings on about that, afterward. But like I told the deputy sheriff who showed up to take the initial report, "even a dog has a right to defend himself." He kind of frowned, thought about it for a minute, and finally said, "yeah, I guess you're right."
And that was the end result. Amazingly enough, no one tried to arrest me, or impound and destroy Petey. Instead, they threatened the kid with a cruelty to animals charge, and shut him and his parents up.
That's my take on this situation, too. Even a gangbanger has a right to defend himself...
I really don't care if he's in a gang himself. He did right. Maybe he'll see what he did, realize that staying in a gang will only lead to it being him being put into the body bag with the chalk outline on the pavement and change his ways. We can only hope.

My concern is that the more "justifiable homicides" go up, the more that the anti-gunner's will scream for "gun control". Grats to the kid for defending his family. Hopefully he doesnt blow it by getting busted for gang related stuff himself.

Of course anti-gunners will jump on this for more gun control. By and large, the same people who scream for more stringent firearms laws are the same people who are firmly behind protecting the rights of the criminal and not the victim. They don't care how many people die as long as the murderer is given even break in the book and, if found guilty, allowed to be supported on tax dollars with benefits that the average American has to work his tookus off to pay for and even then might not be able to afford (free medical and dental, access to college classes, psychological therapy and counselling, etc). It's ok for a criminal to kill someone in cold blood, but heaven forbid that we exercise the death penalty to return the favor. Justice for the victim means nothing. Life imprisonment usually means less than 15 years; never mind that the victim's family deals with the loss for the rest of their lives; especially the children. Sentences of "life" must have the phrase "without the possibilty of parole" attached to actually be life; and even then some states make parole hearings mandatory.

Ok, I'm done for now.

.....and don't forget those who are on death row that have been sitting there for YEARS so that criminals rights are observed!! Must be too expensive to excute somebody here in the U.S..
Yeas ago, a former gang member, just having gotten out of the Marines, was ambushed outside his home by two rival gang members. The Marine dropped to the ground and returned fire, killing one and wounding the other. The county prosecutor decline to charge the Marine,"..just because he could shoot better?" I love it!
Yeah. Iowa. Lots of Democrats here that hunt and shoot.
States like that are fun. Like here in Vegas. We have a lot of liberal-leaning folks, relatively open laws about most things, and a huge number of firearms of all sorts.
