An effort to get Durham officials to seek legislation that would require people buying ammunition to first obtain a permit has touched off a lobbying campaign by both supporters and opponents.

... as far as I am concerned, that would be unconstitutional. What is it ... we have the right to bear arms, just not ammunition ?

Do we just buy the car and not the keys?

These politicians are complete Morons.

I undestand what they are trying to do but they are going around it the wrong way. We have plenty of gun laws already on the books. They just need to be enforced. This won't stop bad guys from getting ammo, it will just change the way they get it. Bad guys still get guns when ever they want them. More laws won't stop them from getting bullets. You already have to get a permit to buy a pistol in Goldsboro and I'm not sure if that is statewide or not but it sure makes it a pain for the good guys to buy guns from gun shops around here.

Work is still to be done:

GRNC Alert 01-07-09:

Durham Council on the Run

DURHAM CITY COUNCIL CANCELS THURSDAY HEARING

Your pressure seems to have the Durham City Council on the run. They have cancelled the committee hearing on the "bullet ownership bill."
As usual, when they attempt to duck is the time to press on to victory. We need to continue contacting the Durham City Council members and let them know that we are watching.

A quick recap is in order. Rev. Whitley began peddling his so-called "bullet ownership bill" a couple of years ago, but so far he has failed to find a willing sponsor in the N.C. G.A. So, he tried the next logical step for ill conceived gun control - Durham. Councilwoman Cora Cole-McFadden and Councilman Howard Clement have expressed the intent to add the bill to the legislative wish-list for 2009.

Under Whitley's proposal, you would have to obtain a permit from the local sheriff before buying ammunition, in the same vein of pistol purchase permits. It would also establish, "forbidden persons" who would not be permitted to buy ammunition.

Whitley, NC community organizer for ACORN (organization recently in the news for rampant voter fraud), hopes to get this bill passed within a year.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

Email and if you have the chance call the members of the Durham Legislative Sub-Committee of the Durham City Council and let them know that you are monitoring the progress of this affront to your rights.

Dear Council Member:

I see that the hearing scheduled on Thursday for the so-called "Bullet Ownership Bill" has been cancelled.

I hope that this means that you plan to bury this affront to individual liberty and are not just playing possum until you believe the public is not watching. The negative publicity that will result from such an ill considered bill would be regrettable, however; I will be closely monitoring the progress of this matter.
