MgMn48 - Another good place to ask this question is over at www.g503.com , it's a forum site similar to this one, but its' primary focus is on all things WWII. Primarily vehicles, but they cover ALL kinds of subjects military. Those guys are serious about that stuff too, it's amazing the knowledge they have.

I'm also finding that these old helmets are worth a helluva lot of money these days! Wish I'd bought one when I was a kid, and the surplus store had stacks of 'em for $5. Same with bayonets for M1's and Springfields.

There are quite a few places that do helmet restorations. Also quite a few that are geared towards restoring German Helmets. As to the prices people are paying for WWII Helmets, I sometimes wonder how many of these things are still lurking hidden in garages, basements, attics, barns, etc. that have been forgotten and waiting to be found? Even in my Dad's place there are things I find that surprise me, and I thought I had his place sussed out when I was a child LOL.
Thanks
Mark

I do not blame you one bit. $150 for a U.S. Helmet?, that is getting a little "outer limits", how many millions were made? Best advice I have is to check out antique shops, flea markets, etc. and odds are you just might stumble onto one at a good price. It might take a while to find one that is not too expensive, but they are out there for sure.
Good Luck
Mark
