Mossberg pump 500c won't eject shell automatically

I recently purchased a Mossberg 500c after it was rebuilt by a co-worker. Both he and I are stumped with this one. After I pull the trigger and shoot the gun when I pump the gun the expelled shell will not eject. It is 'held' in place until I plunk it out by placing my pinky finger into the shell and gently pulling it out. The chambered shell is ready to load correctly and everything else appears to be ok. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cool Problem resolved: The doo hicky is missing...

Update... Problem found. Apparently during a prior breakdown of the gun a user had forgotten to put the dooo hicky that has a tapered edge and a 'knock out area' back into the gun. Without the doo hicky the thingamagiggy will not properly catch and eject the shell automatically. The problem will be resolved by purchasing a replacement doo hicky. Now the question is... what is the name of the doo hicky and where do I get one? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, ckleve. Perhaps this diagram of the Mossberg 500 from the Numrich site will be of help to you - and us. I'm afriad "doohickey" and "thingamajiggy" aren't accepted descriptions for most firearms parts.

How about the “ejector”. That is the part that is held in place inside the receiver. Listed as part #27 in the diagram.

Hey, how did you get to have such a long signature ^^^ IN RED ^^^. Every time I try just to change mine to a new one, it tells me I can't have over than 100 characters? And you have well over 100 characters. lol The one I have now I had to replace words and shorten it to fit and yet still sound right. Granted, it was still a hell of a lot funnier when Hank Hill said it, but I got it close. lol . So, what gives?

You mean the "Ejector". You will need part number 26 and 27.

Yes, we have a winner! The missing Ejector & Screw combination are guilty as charged. I have ordered replacement parts which should be here this week. Thank you to all. The diagram comes in very handy as I am less than novice on shotguns and hunting in general. Thanks again....

Talking

ckleve...From your description it was fairly clear that your "dohicky' was actually a retractor. I've called parts on my gun that and similar names, too. We're not all gunsmiths...but a little sense of humor you showed made me smile this morning.

BTW, welcome to gunandgame.com.

Great gun. I've had my Model 500 for nearly 30 years. Got a slug barrel for it, smooth bore but with sights, and my 29 inch game barrel. Love the gun, as I like to say, the Chevrolet of guns. good to hear it's still kicking with the current generation.
