Well I'm going to try and save up my nickles and get a .45 Colt Lever Action hopefully with a tube magazine. I'm new to this type of rifle so I'm looking for advice on what is good stuff and what a guy should expect to pay for one new or used. I also want to pour my own bullets and load um up my self so any advice here would be great too.
Thanks alot for any input. Feel free to school me if I'm all wet!I can take it! Thanks again.

Thank you Billy! I was kinda' figurin' in $600-$700 range. That's O.K. I want one too so I guess I'm willing to spend it. That'll be my savings goal then I'll shop around. Maybe I can find one used in decent shape.
Do you load your own .45 (Boolits)?

The Rossi 92's are good. A little rough but slick up nice. They're also more historically accurate if that makes any difference. Not as heavy as a Henry either.
Lots to choose from out there. I'm partial to this one I bought for $500. EMF Hardford, way early serial #. Good luck with your selection... deciding is half the fun!

i have a Puma 92 in .45 Colt that i wouldn't trade for anything...well except for maybe a Puma in .454 Casull. but i've heard some bad things about them.
i love my .45 Colt. and so does my girlfriend and my dad and my brother and my best friend. its a blast to shoot. bigger than a .22 but no recoil to shorten a day at the range.
i will say that it doesn't have the smoothest action, and doesn't always feed perfect but after a box of 50 or so i got it figured out and can make it work. maybe it just needs smoothed up like Rebel727 mentioned.
i bought mine used for $275. it loves the magtech cowboy stuff and Alabama Ammo cowboy stuff. i've also shot some Alabama Ammo XTPs through it and they shoot just as good.
i bought a box of Corbon +P but haven't really got to try them out yet. before deer season i'll be loading some of my own hot loads.
It's one of the best looking ones out there as well. I shot with a guy that had one I don't remember if it was a winchester or what but it had an Octagon barrel on it. He said he bought it in the 70's. That was a fun gun to shoot and I have always wanted one just seems everytime I goto a gun store though I go home with something else.
Unbelievable response. Thank you all for your insight, it really helps.
I'm not as concerned with historical accuracy as function. I'm also not a real aesthetics guy. I like my stuff simple and functional.
I like the basic look of the lever guns and I want one to deer hunt with. Open sights of course. I also want to shoot upper end light and moderate loads so from what I understand I need something POST WWII.
I also want to cast my own bullets so any suggestions there would be awesome! Thanks again. I love this site. You guys rule (as my kid would say)
I've been reading everything I can find on Handloading .45 Colt and .45-70 (gubment).
.45-70 falling or rolling block (kind of like the Quigley Down Under gun) will be next in line after the .45 Colt. Then a pair of .45 Colt revolvers, then I'm done. I hope. Yeah Right.
There is so much information out there it is mind bending and the differences in pressures baffles me, so I'm a little leary of any "old" guns.

I take it the feed problem is the carrier isn't coming up unless you slam the lever open? Get some white lithium grease and put a generous amount inside the action. Sit in front of the tv with it and fully work the action for a couple of hours. You won't believe the difference when you're done
