Windwalker: Remember in the 60's when all the bomb shelters were being built or talked about being built? I can remember school assemblies about emergency situations and what to do. I take that back I was a high school kid and didn't remember what to do!

Person's knowledge it self defines you as a survivalist.

Survivalist shopping list

"Gene Lange works at a hedge fund in New York and, wary of the erratic behaviour of his colleagues as the credit crunch develops, he is battening down the hatches. He’s stacked his basement with canned food, bottled water, and a decent supply of washable nappies for his baby. He’s fixing his car up so it’ll run off-road - and he’s taking good care of his collection of guns."

Off-Grid.Net Survivalist shopping list- Off-Grid - life unplugged: solar, wind, hydro, architecture, smallholdings, free stuff

For me being a survivalist means being as prepared as possible for what might come our way. It bothers me to hear most people I know say "oh well when it's time it's time, I just hope I go quick" ..Thats BS ....I will give it my all to try and survive a bad situation, I refuse to just be another sheep..

"So what defines us as survivalists?"

Well, my definition of what makes me a survivalist is that I'm still here. After everything I've done, everywhere that I've been, all the sh*t that's happened.

I'm still here; little older, little greyer, little wiser. A little more cynical/suspicious about the powers that be. And MUCH better equipped to deal with anything that happens.

And still here.

So that's what defines me as a survivalist.

Survivors survive. It's natural selection.

I think Mad Hatter just summed up the mindset pretty well. Taking personal responsibility and not relyon/trusting the yankee gummint to do what's right to insure that people survive SHTF scenarios is what makes a survivor type, a term I prefer to "survivalist," which thanks to Y2K and some of the hysterical stories that ran at the time has negative connotations.

Attitude. Self-reliance. The sheer will to live. To ensure the lives and safety of yourself and family. No matter what it takes or what you have or what you know.

Of course the more you know and the more supplies you have improves your chances greatly, but stockpiling provisions does not make you a servivalist, nor does the lack there of not make you one.

I'm still breathing.
