Anyone know why an XD shoots so much softer than other pistols?

I've shot several and my XD 40 service model is the softest shooting pistol I have. It's very accurate and there is night and day difference between it and my CZ40B. I've heard that S&W MP models shoot softly as well, but haven't tried one. The Springfield fits my hand!

It's the polymer frame.

As well as the guide rod and spring.

And what shoots soft for you may not shoot soft for another person. Handsize, shooting technique and everything above said all result in felt recoil.
One person might feel a 44 mag in Blackhawk to be nothing and .380 LCP to be uncomfortable

the main reason is the guide rod if you field strip and XD you will notice that the guide rod is two pieces that telescope into each other instead of one solid rod. This is supposed to help reduce recoil and muzzle flip.

As Much As I Love My XD...

The Bersa Thunder compact in 9mm shoots softer than my XD Tactical in 9mm, to my feel anyway. And it's all steel, that's the disadvantage of it for me, I bought the XD for the low weight and the "feel" in my hand, finding out how well it shot was a bonus I found after buying it. The Bersa shoots as well though, just a little heavier to carry. With a lower round magazine.

I'm giving credit to the guide rod and spring as well. Those Croation engineers really know what they are doing.

It's my understanding they took the 1911 angles and applied them to a polymer double stack frame. That's why I love the XDm - I have one in .40SW and 9mm - both are a dream to shoot, when I'm not shooting a 1911
I have a 9mm S&W M&P and it's good, but not like the XDm.

Which is why I need to buy one of each type - so I can form my own opinion!
