tackdriver rifles
does anyone REALLY have a tackdriver rifle?
as in you can hit a thumbtack @ 100 yds. over and over again?
or better yet one that can do it ALL DAY!
i dont .
and i've got some real nice rifles.

If you mean, and I think you do, pouring bullet after
bullet into one hole then few people have this magic gun.
Lots of factors enter into accuracy at one hundred yards even if the gun
is immobilized in a vice. Barrel heat buildup affects oscillation or "whip",
even the most determined handloader will have some deviation in powder charges, if taken to the extreme primers have some deviation in performance, bullets if examined microscopically and weighed on untrasensitive lab equipment will have deviations from one to another,
the velocity and direction of the wind can change from shot to shot, air pressure can change from shot to shot, and relative humidity can change during a day of shooting.
All these individually or in groups can affect target impact at one hundred yards.
Realistically, most of us should be very pleased to have three shots in a one and one half inch group on any given day. Remember, you are affecting the rifle even if you do not realize it by breathing, muscle contractions of which you may not be mentally aware, and the pulling direction and force on the trigger,
Dang-it. Now I've got to get a tack and see if I can hit it at 100 yds. Honestly, I bet I can miss it at least 49 out of 50 times, but it will be really interesting to see just how close I get out of 50 attempts. I won't be able to try it for a couple of weeks but I'll let you know my results.
I'll be trying this with 2 or 3 rifles:
Savage 93R17 BTVS w/Simmons 3x9x40
Remington 700 BDL 243 w/Redfield 4x scope
Remington 700 CDL 270 w/Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40
Hopefully I can drive that tack a few times with these.

My Daddy's custom 30-06 could clover leaf factory ammo all day long when it was young. Now I doubt it will do it. "Tack Driver" in my dictionary means 0.5MOA.
To hit a literal tack at 100 yards would take a rail gun like system. Human error would preclude anything being true one hole. JMHO. Please prove me wrong!

Billy I anybody can get lucky once. But I think to really show what the rifle is it should be a series of three to five shot groups. Not just one group.

With my custom .222 i could have 4 tacks holding the target up and one in the center. With 5 rounds i could make the target fall from lack of tacks. I cannot remember what i was loading them with. Took a few year break from target shooting and never wrote down my loading data. Now i just need to spend countless hours of loading, shooting, cussing myself, and repeating the process to find it again.
Edit: Forgot to add the rifle
Remington 722 action, Hart benchrest Stainless Heavy barrel chambered in .222, Fajen target Stock, Timney trigger, 6-24x40 Weaver Varmint scope. I dislike the scope but only decent one i could afford at the time.

yeah
ive accidentally put all 5 shots in the 1/2 in. circle without touching black.
i just want to see it ONCE out of these guns that some members claim can do it all day.
i am sick of the lies.
