I once had to hold my breath while working in a hanger (un-heated at -36F) "were i froze a couple toes" was so cold changeing a alternator the vapor would hang there obscureing your vision.
The only way to start a vehicle is having plenty of heaters on it, block, battery blanket, oil pan, pad on the tranny and transfer case. Herman Nelson in a pinch!
Had to bring in your sno-go drive belt at night so it would be pliable next time you went out.
Herman Nelson is my best buddy! had ole Herman stuck right up the pant leg of my union suit while swapping out a standby fuel boost pump on a Twin Otter (that night it was -46F).

Its when I was young & stupid working for Cape Smythe Air Service in OTZ they dident have a hanger big enough to bring in the plane so banked a couple sheets of plywood and a Quartz work light out on the hard packed snow and went to work on that thing (schedueld to fly the next day)
I had a supervisor (crazy wrench)that drove to work on a Honda 110 atv at -46F he would run a 5 gallon bucket of scalding hot water on it and drive to work and when to work would bring it in the hanger (110 fit thru the walk thru door) some body in the past had slashed the front tire so he stiched the tire useing .030 safety wire and lined the tire with a old inner tube section over the wire stich and innertubed tubed it he never changed that tire the whole time he had it, that guy was cheap!

Wear old clothes, carry way too big a knife, have a 10mm inside the belt, getting long in the tooth, and know way too much about guns (sounds EXACTLY like a guy or 2 I know).

I guess they're ok if doing something stationary, like ice fishing, or drinking, or drinking and icefishing. But ya might as well have a couple blocks of wood strapped to your feet if you're gonna do something physical with'em on

Are they really that bad? I've been led to believe they are the thing to have.

Excessive wearing of bunny boots leads to trench foot.
Wearing pack boots and rotateing in dry socks & felt liners & insoles is a better alternative for prolonged outings
if you want to strech a outing useing packs plastic bag your feet so the perspiration doesent saturate the felt liners
I had a pair of Wiggies Sun Walker boot liners, they were ok but I prefured the felt liners with wool blend boot socks were as warmer of the two.
The old days Ive seen Pilots wear the Canvas airforce mukluks as they took up less space on the rudder peddals of light aircraft, some the large aircraft dont have that much room either.
If you had to stand for a January day out on the ramp in Point Hope Alaska replacing a cylinder on a Cessna 207 (the Sled) Bunny Boots are hard to beat.

You make me shiver just by saying that stuff. I need a nice big woman to keep me warm now. And the girl in my icon don't count. Besides, she howls in her sleep.

| Females in the Arctic
There are very few that would want to live here, those that do find out they dont have the sand to make a go of it and fold like a cheap card table.
the few that do are 50yro batcheloretts that have 10 dogs and can piss standing up and have a low opinion of men as a whole.
The majority that live in big towns, "want to stay there" and the bush gals are "itching to go Anchorage" away from chopping wood and feeding dogs & general every day chores.
They may want to play at it but soon reality bights down and they fade out wanting 7/11's
walmart, and takeout food, and hot & cold running water. (them 40 minuet showers are nice!)
In general females are nice but not worth packing along to the boonies with all the noise and comotion that useally is involved in dealing with them.
Thats why the big towns do so well in the entertaiment industry.
Go to town see the sights (Bush Company), ride the rides, have some fun, then go home to peace & quiet
Women & Rollercoasters are both nice and one hell of a ride but they are noisey and never any peace & quiet, cant get a good nap around either one, they fume worse than when you smoke your cigar.
I was married for over 14 years, the last 5 years without the ole blister has been well worth the leagle fee to win back my freedom.
