Survival packets for towns...

Do you know if your town has a survival plan in case of anything... i dont live in willcox but live 30 miles away, its kinda cool i hope my town does this as well. I will be asking my town officals about this cause some of the material needs to be distributed to the masses A.S.A.P

take a look and then try and find out if your town has plans. what do you think about it?

AFter 9/11, alot of towns and counties developed their own Emergency Management Agencies. Some had them before 9/11, but got serious after that. Alot of it is volunteer work. If its something that interests you, you should see if there is a local organization you could work with.

I believe most towns (maybe only ones with certain population numbers) are required to keep emergency response plans. Your emergency services people generally work these up, sometimes with outside consulting assistance. The higher risk the town, the better the plan will be because they will dedicate more money to the project.

But, unfortunately, emergency plans that I've seen for corporations and some cities are very poor. The bottom line comes down to expertise. If you are relying on your local podunk sheriff and fire chief to develop it, its gonna be pretty poor. Cops think like cops and firemen think like firemen. This is not always your best perspective.

I think it is a neat idea, but I think it would only work for very (relatively?) small towns. Mine is a bit over 100k and has a very wide demographic (ranging from some rural dwellers in the outskirts, to uppity rich people in one area, to spoiled college kids, to some mild ghettoes, but with the majority being middle-class average joes), so I don't think it would work in my town.

Though, towns grow big due to business, and business-type people tend to be less concerned with "survivalist"-type issues than rural people who practically have to deal with them every day (like simply stocking up on more groceries since it might be a half-hour drive to the nearest good grocery store, etc). So, not only is the larger number of people a problem when trying to organize a large town (especially in times of crisis), but the type of people that tend to inhabit larger towns as well.

Welp the pop. of my town is around 5k to 7500 people depending on what time of year it is... there for the above mentioned plan might work for my town, but getting the city officals to come off the money and not put it in their pockets is a whole other set of problems. I wouldnt trust my city officals to be able to get out of a wet paper bag, they are idiots.

I think my towns survial plan for cataastrophic events is sorta like this: First the fire Dept does it's best, then gives up when it's out of materials and water pressure. The police bug out fast because the thugs outnumber them and know how many of them are on the take. the decent people are mostly in late middle age and so become victims.

Meanwhile, me and my family hole up in the basement with our rather antiqudated weapons and hoard of rice, beans, powdered milk, sugar and ammo, and hope for the best.

Yep, were sunk.
