For SHTF (for me) it's this: Colt Commander + Mosin M44, and I'm set.

I carry a springfield armory 1911A1 GI Basic. Only in a fairytail land is a glock as good as a 1911.
| What makes a Glock so special in San Fransico????????

In the fairytail land of San Fransico. They like to prance around with their Glocks and back packs full of MREs and granola bars. Waiting for the Mythical SHTF situation where they can live in the wilderness and purify water and eat dried food, and set up a Fabulous new system of government.

Kali has a 10-round magazine limit. San Fran doesn't even allow 'em.

SS Loaded Champ here. 1911's will rock even if they come out with laser rifles.

First, if you're going to walk around with one all day, keeping a round in the chamber on a glock isn't a good idea... i don't think handguns without hammers are right.. its just not right....
and every gun I've owned had that 1911-45 angled grip. When I grab a glock and try to quick-fire it, I'm way high because of the drastic change in grip. I have to think too much to adjust for it. Not a good thing to have to do when the SHTF.

I've had a couple highly customized 1911's and a couple plain- jane government models and I agree. The closer you stay to stock the better. Spending a ton of money on a 1911 gives you bragging rights and very little else, they do just fine right out of the box.

It looks like the 1911 is winning this debate. I agree the flames are awesome.

My Glock 21 in .45ACP is good enough for me. It's light, comfortable, I don't care what it looks like, it carries 15 rounds of .45 with the mag extensions I put on, and it shoots wherever I want it to. If I get the chance to get a 1911, then maybe that will change, but I haven't had the chance to shoot one yet, so I'll just have to see.

I wonder what the tolerance differences are between a Springfield GI or milspec vs my aforementioned stainless Kimber Custom TLE II

I bet not that much. There is only so much you can do with the slide, its more in the springs and trigger pull. The thinkin of the tighter tolerances of the "mondern" 1911 compare to the older one is just some excuse to make someone think their plastic toy gun is better than this tried and true veteran of most major armed conflicts on earth.

I think the mil spec is the same thing as the GI with the exception of 3 dot sights and a wider ejection port. If i'm not mistaken it funtions the same internaly and is loose like the GI.

+1 troll... not much of a difference at all...
ive fired two colts, three springfields and two low end 1911's and the slides were all identical except for lettering and s#'s...
