Per national geographic;
The giant squid remains largely a mystery to scientists despite being the biggest invertebrate on Earth. The largest of these elusive giants ever found measured 59 feet (18 meters) in length and weighed nearly a ton (900 kg).
However, their inhospitable deep-sea habitat has made them uniquely difficult to study, and almost everything scientists know about them is from carcasses that have washed up on beaches or been hauled in by fishermen. Lately, however, the fortunes of scientists studying these elusive creatures have begun to turn. In 2004 researchers in Japan took the first images ever of a live giant squid. And in late 2006, scientists with Japan's National Science Museum caught and brought to the surface a live 24-foot (7-meter) female giant squid.
Giant squid, along with their cousin, the colossal squid, have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, measuring some 10 inches (25 centimeters) in diameter. These massive organs allow them to detect objects in the lightless depths where most other animals would see nothing.
Hmm...I could see how one of these appearing could shake up some old time sailors. Plus who is to say how large they get? The late Zane Grey reported sighting a Great White shark in excess of 33'. The largest one we know of I beleive is 27'. Was he exagerating? He was a seasoned sailor.Or perhaps there are larger creatures out there we just simply have not seen?

Old world sailing ships were not as big as people think. Christoper Columbus's Santa Maria ship was only about 70 feet long. The largest recorded squid was 18.3 meters or 54+ feet long. Squids have two tentacles that are for catching prey and the longest. This two could have easily reach the deck! The old drawings of squids and whales fighting are back up buy sucker damage on found on recent sperm whales.
As far as animals not being found. They more move due to food, and preservation. The DNR released Timberwolves here, 8 months later one was found in Alberta, Canada 1100 miles away. Recently Coyotes have been sighted in my old stomping grounds in Central Florida. Hmmmm, never were there before.
If humanity thinks we have learned everything we can, We need to put down the Hairy Rosy manatee porn!

Like I said before nocturnal and someone else said reasoning skills it can go virtually unnoticed

Personally I think it all comes down to whether, "You feel in fear of your life." Just like a bear out of season.The burden is on you to avoid confrontation. | Yeah, it would probably be a homicide since anything that looks like big foot would necessarily be a person in a gorilla costume.

The way I look at it is like this..Im a Christian, I believe in god. I have NEVER seen god, and I have NO proof he is real. But just because I have no proof and have never seen him does not mean he's not real. Same thing with bigfoot...ive never seen one a the dudes, and have absolutly no proof one a things exist..but I choose to believe stories such as that coming from some of these gun and game members I find to be honest, as far as I can tell. Anyways...Ill beleive in god and bigfoot. Nobody is forcing you too.

If I ever run across a "bigfoot" in the woods and I have my "deer" rifle, I certainly wouldn't be running. I'd be aiming at his head. A bullet from any high power rifle planted in the forehead, or brain would end any situation in a hurry. It would also make me a life's fortune. Think of all the money that would be had when a bigfoot body was delivered to the scientific community. Once and for all the arguement about it's exisitance would be settled.
