I had seen some gear and tools I wished I had but dident have the budget for. the same would apply for when outdoors away from civilization.
Hand saw I figured on makeing a buck saw type that one could make with a hatchet and the awl on my pocket knife and use a couple nails to pi the blade and use 550 cord to tension the top.
a idea came up while cooking, had a large can lid after opening a can of beans, that lid was sharp! "Tin can Ulu!"so I went out in the yard a wacked out a 3" long section of willow 3/4" in diameter useing a leatherman the wood saw to kerf the willow 1/2 way then used a couple brads and nailed it thru the handle (double over top 1/4 the can lid) that was one wicked Ulu!
Now figureing how to crudely make snow shoes with whats on me limited to useing what's in my pockets out in the boondocks.
The longest time someting takes is figureing out how to do somthing it saves time having built a few items before, mabe carrying a sling shot rubber tube and leather pocket in your pack and in field hack out a Y in the field if needed.
To clareify I would carry a Bow saw blade in my travel kit coverd with a doubled over piece of cardboard wrapped in 550 cord, the slingshot main componet (rubber tube and leather pocket) would be in the bottom of the travel bag, the frame to be fabricated at a later date.
So far I figured the (lockblade) leatherman I now carry doesent have a file and want to get one that does.
So did the old model I had that went walkabout, the new one I picked up dident 'Leatherman FUSE' nice lite & simple but no saw or file, now carrying a Leatherman 'SUPER TOOL 200' has different type locks, I was carrying a SOG PowerLock but had some issues with it!
