4x4 Rifles?

Hey guys. I just got word that my 100 atr is on back order for up to 4 months, so they offered if I wanted to switch my order to a 4x4. I've looked at the pics of them and they look like something that someone like me would be all over.

Few questions though and please keep in mind, I'm very new to the hunting world so please excuse the ignorant questions.

1) What is a 4x4 rifle? Is that just a marketing term like the ats and atr series?

2) I read something about the bolt face allowing magnum rounds? Is that true?

3) Are there any other pros that could justify the price difference for me?

Have you tried your local WalMart?
They have them ATR's.
Tell them if they will give you the 4x4 for the price of the ATR you have oredered, you'll take it.

Bummer!

O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. - Firearms, Shotguns, Rifles, Accessories, and Precision Machining

That sure does look like a very nice gun. If you get one, please do let us know how it performs! From the little that I read, the 4x4 is just a model#. Also, that gun comes in a few different calibers including some magnum calibers so it makes sense that the bolt face is made to take the forces of a magnum round.

Will do. This may sound like a very weird question (remember I'm new to this) but if I got the 30.06 version, does that mean I can still shoot a magnum round?

The stock is kind of Far Out to my likeing on the 4X4's but I'm not a cool person so what the heck. It's what you like thats Important.

If I'm not mistaken the magazine is different than the ATR's...I'll go look and see.

Yep the 4X4 has what they call a drop box magazine so thats good. Make sure if you take this deal the 4X4 has the new LBA ajustable trigger that was added this year.

Which makes the deal a whole lot sweeter...A.H

the term 4x4 is one they use to basically describe the rifle it is made to go anywhere. i have the 30-06 and in the marincot finish, supposedly (and i have not nor do i have any intention of trying it out) it is supposedly coated in a heavy watter resistant chemical that is heated on the gun itself. ok pro and con time. pro they have drop out clips makeing it easier to load, con the clip is a kinda thin polymer and can break if handled poorly, pro well ballanced and accurate, con everyones shooting style is different, so others might not like the gun as much as i do. however in truth it is a great rifle, and handles well. great as a hunting rifle, or all round varment popper

Have you checked Guns - Online Gun Auction - Guns at GunBroker.com for an ATR?

Did a quick search for you and here's what came up. If you go this route, just send the seller a question, BEFORE bidding, asking if they have the rifle in hand and or in stock?

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/SearchResults.asp?SearchResults.asp?SearchType=0&K eywords=Mossberg+ATR

And, FWIW, there are a couple other gun auction websites you could check? Guns America and Auction Arms to be exact.
