Note in state freight shipping, they will go through your stuff thats shipped freight in Alaska, they are now playing by TSA rules these days a locked toolbox will show up at its destination with the lock cut off (looking for Illeagle stuff).
Will they still go through my stuff mailed thought USPS?

I was thinking of mailing the guns USPS priority.

Angry U.S. postal service and ther sorry charlie policy

I had bought some door cables form Wiscinson they were shipped "Priority Mail" strapping taped up in Lincoln Welding Rod carboard box (box was hell for stout ie cardboard on steroids) well I got the box in the OTZ post orfice "empty" and wrapped with shrink wrap, the end that was torn off (by abuse) was inside and the postage sticker on the box said it was mailed 2 weeks earlier and cost $23 to mail.
What service for Priority Mail!!! you buy stuff for $168 they charge you $23 for shipping and it takes two weeks to get to your Po Box and you get a empty box!!!!!
I had 6 special cables in that box where did those special cables go? nobody knew!, I'd in the past received boxes damaged that were inside a large plastic bag with "Damaged When Received" stickers all over, I went throught the process of fileing a damaged/missing mail form, then the little gal at the counter said I'd get better service to call the Alaska Postal Distribution Center in ANC so I did, they wern't much help, lots of lip service but nothing usefull or positive, they say they dont have your stuff and hang up on you "they toss stuff away if it gets separated from the package"
If what your shipping has value, Alway's have it so the Post Office is held accountable for damage/theft (Ive seen too much abuse to think its isolated)
Your playing a loseing hand if you think you are going to ship somthing to Alaska without takeing precautions Double box secure contents from movement, strapping tape the ends and side's all the way round 3 wraps, any place the box can rupture reinforce it!!! then test it by beating it on its weakest end on the floor!!!! I shit you not!!! if what you packed nudges a hole through the box is as good as lost the first day!
Never send anything of value without declaering what it is and have it inshured, also delivery comformation!!!! You have a 1 in 8 chance your box is landing in Alaska Damaged in some form.
I once joined a music club bought 5 CD's ($75 worth + shipping)they put one free complimentry CD in the box, I got the busted open box the invoice and the crappy free CD everthing else was gone!!!! I never got a peep from the post office, just front counter lip service.

Unhappy Priority Mail Anchorage to Kotzebue

I had orderd some 3-M buffung wheels for treating some rust & corrosion I orderd the materials from Alaska Industrial Hardware on Old Seward Hwy, had them Priority maild to OTZ that it took 3 days and $7 to get to OTZ was good the post office used a sharpie marker and recorded the received date on the box from Anch, they then lost it in the OTZ post office for 19 days, after the fist week we were asking at the front counter for that box every day after that, Bingo the 19th day it surfaced with a note in the box to pick up a package at the counter.
My income tax last year! dident find its way to the IRS!!!! I found out this spring I dident turn one in last year.
I have a nice tax preparer invoice for the work she did, but stupid me! I didnt cover my ass.

Now you want to mail a firearm through these Ya Hoo's?????

Heard from a reliable source, the 300 Win Mag is the National Caliber of Alaska.

Guns and Alalska

I never had to move guns with me, I moved to alaska with 2 duffle bags and a 53 pound box of tools.
I bought what I needed in state and local, I know that shipping firearms through the postoffice is vastly different than the last time I mailed stuff (1994), Id suggest UPS they deliver all over Bush Alaska. best to pay more and get your babies there in one piece, remember insurance

I never had any problems when I given a busted Hi-Point 995, I spent a little over $14 to ship it to Ohio through the post office, it was returned via the postoffice (delivery comformation) back to me. I naver had any problems

In state air freight shipping is where the post 911 TSA crap starts because most these bush airports are all connected to a international airport and there are a great inconvience you can expect this with Alaska Airlines (buddy Wade had cut paddlock on his tool box from Soldontna/Anchorage/Kotzebue leg thankyou TSA!), Northern Air Cargo, Everts Air Cargo and Lynden Air cargo, I did fly on Era down to Soldotna back in early april and they dident go crazy on the bags like the bush destination ones (I suspect there looking for bootlegers and pot suppliers)

Interarms Mark X in .300 win mag, and a Henry Lever Action .22 LR.

Though now I"m not so sure about the Henry Lever Action.
I know I just bought it.
But all the plastic on it is bothering me.

I keep thinking maybe a little Ruger Bearcat .22 LR would be better.
Because it's ALWAYS there. So when I see a hare, or partridge, or what ever, I can shoot it, not say, OH my rifle is the the canoe.

You can take the 300 through Canada as well as the 22. No handguns though. That would have to go dealer to dealer transfer.

Could I not keep the gun here and have family ship it to me when I get up there?

Technically you can ship a gun interstate to yourself without going through a dealer. I suppose if you packaged it and left it for you relative to take to the shipping center at a later date it would probably be ok.

Not a handgun !! Andrew you could have a family member ship it dealer to dealer. Or you could just buy a used one here.

You can't mail a handgun. You could ship it Fedex or the like, but I would still go through an FFL.

Ah that makes sense.

I'll just stay with rifles anyhow.
Buy a used .44 mag when I get up there.

Think I'll just keep the Henry. Pretty nice gun, but I hate the sights it came with.
I would mount a scop anyway, but I like to have good back up sights.

I'm thinking of getting a Savage Mark II G. Better for the cold climate and I like the sights!
