I like the 7mm remington mag for all north american big game. 30-06 is my second choice, I am currently having a 7mm-08 built, should be here next week. I hope it will be good for long range shooting, coyotes, targets and deer mostly. (out to 600 yards or so)

The .35 Remington is my favorite rifle cartridge. My dad used it, my grandpa used it, it will always be at the top of my list. I also really like the .270, and the last few years I have used the .308 more often, but the .35 Rem in an old Marlin is just so much cooler.

Like a lot of folks contributing to this, I own a lot of calibers in a lot of different rifles, but I have to agree that in terms of just plain shooting fun, nothing beats a .22LR. In terms of hunting versatility, I graduated from the Jack Connor School of .270 Winchester.

My favorite caliber would be the one I don't own. I have studied up on it and for my hunting situation for Deer would be the 358 Win.
Lord willing I'll own a Browning BLR in 358 some day...A.H

| .30-06. I've killed deer with it, most of my rifles are chambered for it, and I think it is about the best all around caliber. The 7.92x57mm (8mm) and 7.62x54R come real close to the .30-06 in ballistic performance. The .303 British is potent and a great performer too without the sore shoulder associated with the above from a days shooting. |

| Favorite caliber
If you shoot a LOT, the "magnum" calibers are a"pain in the shoulder" for most and permanently damage your hearing nerves, even with ear plugs. Why anyone who practices with the 30-30 and 30-06, needs anything "hotter", is a mystery.
All of these magnums and hot-shots are simply to make money and many are used a few years by the MACHO guys untill a bigger and hotter number is created for those who think "bigger is better". They don't seem to realize that it's not how big it is, it's how you USE IT, that matters.

coltwin- I've been hunting with a 7mm Mag since 1978. Although not exclusively, I still have hunted it hard. So I feel justified in saying you are full of hooey !!
