Favorite caliber? .44mag. In my T/C with a23in. barrel, I'm deer good to 125, in my Bisley Hunter I can shhot 2" groups at 50yrds. with a 300gr. WFNGC hard cast at 1300fps that will take down anything in North America. I hunt and live in N.E. Okla., thick brushy stuff...can't see a deer beyond 75yrds., much less shoot at one that far! If I need to shoot farther than 50yrds., then I had better just become a better hunter!
.270Win-Preferably out of a Rem700 LOL
Simple, time-proven, easily available, is powerful enough for any deer, and moose/elk with bullet-placement, without being a pain to shoot/carry.

I read about 4 of these 7 pages, and agree with most choices. The most popular seem to be the '06, .270, 7mm and .300 magnums. My personal favorites are two Handi rifles, one in .357 Maximum for its versatility.....38, .357 mag and max. The other is my .45-70. Between them, they do all I need to do in Michigan.
my most favorite and all round gun and caliber ,is a remington model 700 sendero in 300RUM, i use it for everything from coyotes rt on up to Buffalo , the next one down is my model seven in 300saum, then my ruger ultra light in 257 Roberts
