Anyone ever built a light-weight, compact, 2 man ice fishing tent?
I have an idea, but this may be totally out of left field and not work at all.
I am considering using an old 8 man camping tent as a base. It is tall enough and folds down pretty small. I would cut an oval out of the floor to accommodate the holes and hem in some flexible plastic rods to help hold the shape and tension of the modified floor. I would use good sized screw-thread eye bolts instead of the normal tent stakes to hold the tent down. I think dropping the eye bolts 5 inches into the ice ought to keep the tent on the ice and off the rocks. I will have to test that theory, but I think the bolt will stay but until I tell it otherwise...
Now for the sub floor. I am not sure how necessary this is, I think it would be a good idea to have a 1/2" gap between the floor and the ice. anyone? I have enough lightweight plastic sheeting to throw down under the tent and keep it off the ice. I would just stick some runners on the bottom so there is a gap between most of it and the ice.
Anyone see how this is a crazy plan, or is it worth a shot?

well, I'm not sure how easy it will be but with enough experimenting and tweaking I think it could work. One question I have is the tent really sturdy in high winds? if not you may want to reinforce the walls because the wind can be really harsh an lakes in the winter.
