I'd love to join, unfortenatly I am still bound by mandate and oath not to disscuss most of my military service, even my wife is in the dark about it.
I can tell you that I was hand picked and trained at Fort Benning for a specific purpose.Four more years and some aspects will no longer be c-12 sensitive.Even still, its not something I'm comfortable disscussing.

Thank you for the invitation

It will be cold and rainy while you're there, at least from November to April/May. Cold windy nights and a stunning night sky awaits you. (Sounds almost like a travel brochure, doesn't it? )

Anyway, you'll be on the route that the Persians and the Meads under King Cyrus rode down on when they attacked Babylon 2600 years ago. Things there haven't changed much since then. I was in western Iraq in Al-Anbar before the surge shuttling by air between Fallujah, Ramadi, Taqqadum, and Al-Asad. The ground there was sort of rocky too with reed marshes, date palm orchards, and some wildlife along the Euphrates. The people there were almost entirely Sunni. They were actually a pleasure to be with when they stopped shooting at us and formed up to help eject al-Qaeda from the region. Where you'll be will be predominantly Shia (Shiites). That's who makes up most of the Iraqi government, and almost all of the Iraqi Army and police in the north. I heard that they refuse to be influenced by their Shiite Persian neighbors to the north and have worked pretty well with U.S. and Coalition Forces. If you are like most Westerners, you'll be amazed at the sites unless you've been there before. Travel as light as they will let you. You can get anything you want from the military exchanges downrange, even a laptop to write home. Remember AAFES motto. "We Go Where You Go."
