Hammers are HARD! I cheated and took most with a dermel then finished with a file.

In talking with another guy who works on Rugers, He said pretty much the same thing. Lots of metal removal !! My question is, if you do this, have you weakened the hammer significantly ??

The bisley hammer has a lot of extra material on the back side below the spur. I think it's there to fill in the gap in the bisley grip frame. When your done fitting you have a blackhawk profile with a bisley spur. I like the bisley spur because it is lower and easier to cock with your thumb with out moving your grip.

If I was to build a 'fanning' hammer I would heat up the spur and hammer it out a bit flatter. Then file to shape, round off all the edges and no knurling on top of the spur.
Fanning well destroy the revolver in short order. The cylinder rotates in to lock so fast that you peen the notches in the cylinder and you wear the bolt and enlarge the bolt window in the frame.
I have fanned a few of my SA's but only a few times. I'm to old for that hot rod crap any more, I well admit it can be fun. Hell, I have quit drinking, smoking and lookin at nekked women....... I'm ready Lord.

^ Ha-Ha !! I don't want to fan my gun. I think of the ones I've seen that they would be real quick to fire.

The Super Blackhawk hammer is an easier swap than a Bisley hammer. I'd suggest contacting Bob Munden for his specs on a race gun if you're interested in fanning. I have read that the Taurus Gaucho is the best candidate for fanning; but Mr. Munden works on everything and knows what mods are necessary for the gun to survive.

I've seen a few pics of his guns. I really like them a lot. I'm going with the bisley trigger for the aforementioned reasons.

I saw a Vaquero that had a pretty fat, squarish hammer.

I've seen several with SBH hammer on them. I think they are all original "Vaqueros", not sure about the smaller frame "New Vaquero".

The one I saw was a New Vaquero I believe. Still want the Bisley one when I get paid.

Here's mine so far. I like a variety of calibers, but I have to admit I enjoy shooting the .22's the most. |
