Sako L579 Bolt lift

Does anybody know what the bolt lift degree is on the Sako's?
I know the browning Stainless Stalker has a 60* degree bolt lift.
Reason for my question is trying to figure out the size rings I'll need for a 3.5-15x50mm Nightforce.

Cheers

You have the rifle. Lay it on it's left side and measure the bolt throw using a protractor.

Steve - I would say you were almost drawn and quartered there.
Nothing like a little protraction interaction to stir up the old "angle" infraction action. But you did offer a detraction. Maybe he didn't properly deduce the extraction? That my reaction.

Forty, to be honest i havent fired the Sako yet, since i bought it i've had to do some work to it, hadn't been fired for 20yrs so there was a major clean up to do. The barrel is in amazing condition considering it was made back in 1965. So i pulled it apart, polished the bolt, re oiled the stock and ironed some marks out.
All back together now, only thing missing is the scope.
So i have a SAKO L579 in .243 waiting to be fired, I was told my scope is arriving from the states by the end of the month, fingers crossed.

BTW i have a small mind as it really made me laugh.

Gate - You have something to really look forward to. Sako's are simply shooters. New - old - doesn't seem to matter. What scope did you order?
Also curious as to where you are from and you mentioned ordering from the states. Let us know how she shoots.

Sam - I was thinking that all 579 actions had two lugs, but were 60 deg throw. Wrong?

I believe I am right but can stand correction. In a quick look I dodn't find it.Someone might know. Well I looked pretty good but couldn't find a two lug 60 deg.bolt.I doubt if they could get the strength necessary with one.A three lug is not only stronger,it lends to accuracy. The Rem.M788 for instance. Also the AR,s. sam.

Forty, I live in Melbourne Australia.
I'm waiting on NIGHTFORCE NXS 3.5-15x50 The gundealer i'm going through ordered it 2 months ago... Will post pics when i get it mounted.
As for the bolt lift i thought only Browning had the 60 degree lift only... maybe i'm wrong.
cheers

Nice Scope.
I think that quite a few now have a 60 degree lift. I know that Sako's are now 60. Both model 75 & 85 as well as other models.
Post how all goes. Expecially accuracy results.

Steve - Wasn't there an older Sako action at one time that had two front lugs and one in the rear? I'm pretty sure there was such a gun in my buddies gunshop in Pa. Might be thinking of something else, but it seems to me it was a Sako.

Will do Forty,
I was told today my scope will be in with-in the next 3 weeks, apparently there's a backlog of orders for NightForce scopes.
when I mount it, and eventually shoot the damn thing i'll be sure to add pics of the groupings at 100mts. Will have to try different types of ammo till i find the right round for it.
As for the lugs, wilkipedia has a decent write up on the Sako, including the bolt and locking lugs, but it doesn't say about the L579 for some reason but i think It's 3 locking lugs 2 in front 1 in the rear.
SAKO - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Just click on the links

My rifle was made around 1965 that's all i know also the Sako website has a PDF file on all the old rifles they've made
SAKO Old Models

Thanks guys

I have an old L57 in .243 an it appears to have 2 in the front and 1 in the rear just under the bolt handle not sure if it a lug or just a guide mine was made around 1957 or early 1958 i think according to the serial #19xx it still shoots like a dream
