My personal favorite ''improvised'' weapon would have to be my Stihls. If I can't get to a gun, a chainsaw would be my choice! As Jackyl says " I'm a lumberjack, now baby"

Haha nice.
And Thrillbilly, no wonder I was confused, the knife you were talking about is the Bushman, not the Bushmaster! Gah! Lol.
Yeah those look way nice. Let me know when you get yours, I want to know the shape of the inside of the handle. It looks like its tapered and perhaps even has grooves / threads to hold it onto a wooden stick (they stress being able to simply attach it onto a limb or sapling).

Holy Crap! Not only did I screw it up in the first post, I did it twice! I guess they'll revoke my "I Know What I'm Doing" Card.

always remember better the police cetch with a weapon than the bad guys catch you without one.
it is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6

After watching a video on youtube of a guy using a super soaker [watergun] as a flame thrower, I had an epiphany, and realized I could slightly improve what he did. Some people have these waterguns laying around, some don't. Obviously it wouldn't be very practical for home defense, as you'd probably start your house on fire, thus leaving you without a shelter but, if you were outside it would be a bit more practical. If I can recall correctly, napalm is easily made from styrofoam and gasoline..
This is pretty much the only thing unique I've thought up that hasn't been mentioned.
This is basically what I thought up: |

I suppose I didn't think about that. .But then again I never said it was entirely practical. You're probably better off with a steel pipe or screwdriver. Ha ha.

Also, remember Fire has no allies! I would limit anything fire-related (from Molotovs, to Spray cans with lighters, to squirt guns filled with gasoline) to very specific scenarios. If on the move, these devices would likely be quite dangerous to have around (imagine you trip and fall on the squirt gun, break it, spilling gasoline all over yourself). If on the defense, one would have to be very careful to not use it around grass or your home (basically might be limited to guarding your driveway or your neighborhood's steet). And, of on the attack... well let's hope if you are the aggressor that you will have something a little more substantial... perhaps a Supremely Viable 10/22?

Going back and reading the posters question and reading all the posts here.
I've came to the conclusion if your home is broke into and the person breaking in has a gun and gets the jump on you then there's not much you can do IF you don't have a weapon within arms reach.
On the other hand if a person(s) is breaking in and your aware of it and have a little time to react some of the stuff posted here would work.
Now what seems to be most Important is makeing your Home or Apartment "hard to break into" You may not be able to make it Break in Proff but you can make the criminal "Work" to break in.
And this is when you have a chance to Stop the Break in or SHTF. By haveing time to prepare for defending yourself by whatever means you decide.
Some of the advice here is useful but makeing your home hard to break into, would be my first prority.
If where you live doesn't allow firearms then I'm recommending one of the new BB/Pellet pistols or even a Blank fireing pistol.
Also I'd give credit to the poster at another thread if I could remember who posted it and thats use the car door lock/alarm on your key chain if your car is within range,,,A,H

For what it's worth:
Guns are not rocket science, they are fundamentally simple devices. Making them is literally child's play - I know, I made about a half dozen of them between the ages of 9-16, as did several of my friends. It was not a particularly uncommon activity when I was a kid. We didn't need anything we couldn't find laying around the garage or at worst laying around the local junkyard.
You can make a submachine gun from hydraulic and plumbing pipe plus some thick sheet metal in less than a day, using only common hand tools available at any decent department store.
Fully automatic weapons have been confiscated in maximum security prisons - weapons that were manufactured in the prison.
If the SHTF there's no way you can be prevented from having a gun if you want one enough, they're just too easy to make. Ammo is a little tougher, but if you're not trying to reproduce existing factory ammo it's only a little tougher.
Just another reason gun control can never work. If you can't keep automatic weapons out of a maximum security prison, not even a super oppressive police state is going to be able to keep them away from the general population. |

Oh, did I forget to mention that the dreaded AK-47 was designed to be able to be manufactured in an ordinary machine shop with no special tools?
