590 Mariner

A sporting goods store near me has Mossberg 590 Mariners for $450 brand new. Comes with the pistol grip from Mossberg, and the store is throwing in a sling (store owned brand). Is this a good deal? It seems to be about the going rate of the 590 Mariner online, even the ones i found on gunbroker were right around there, though i didn't look very long. I was hoping for a parkerized but the only 590 model the company carries continiously is the Mariner. I'm after this coating because it will be used as a trunk gun sometimes, and also used when riding quads in the woods, rain or shine.

I have a couple of 12 ga. shotguns now but I really like the looks of the 590. It very well be the next firearm I buy...

yup i like it alot. i held it and and fiddled around with it a bit. they had a lock on the trigger though so i couldn't get the exact feel of holding it with my hand gripping it right. The only other short barrel shotgun they carry was a 500 Combo with a 28" and 18" barrel. But unlike the mariner its blued, and only holds 5 rounds. Also the guy told me it probably would be another 2 or 3 weeks before they got it in. It is 150 cheaper though. And no he wasn't just telling me it would take a long time before they got anymore in to try and sell the 590 because i asked about the 500 combo first lol.

the 590 has a 20 inch barrel and holds 7 + 1, i hear that the coating on the mariner is for weather resistance like water or liquids, but am not sure... i have a 500 that looks exactly like that but without the bayo lug and end cap, my cap is flat...

I would jump on the opportunity if I were you

In view of the demand and panic buying in the marketplace for all manner of shotguns with "special" features of any kind this is a good price.

If I were where you live I would buy the gun.

I paid $ 364.00 for this one last year.

I found it at The Gun Source on the net. My friend who has an ffl got it here for me to give my kid...A.H

EDIT: You'll end up wishing it was 18.5" later...A.h

i've actually been looking for quite some time at shotguns and thought i liked the look of the 18.5", but decided i really prefer the extra shots and the look of the mag tube being flush with the barrel, also it is proving VERY VERY hard to find a 18.5" one. the closest i could come would be the 500 combo 28/18 but they didn't have any, and their distributor didn't either.
