| My go-to-gun
is a Remington 870 short barrel 12 gauge loaded with alternating slug and double ought buckshot. I keep it loaded as I think it is both silly and dangerous to depend on the sound of working the action to put fear into a home invader.

Survival Rifle - Romanian SKS cheap rounds, accurate, reliable, powerful enough to take down game & easy to upkeep
Under bed home defense - Westernfield 20GA pump, super lightweight, shorter barrel, I like the 870, but keep it in cabinet for hunting. I agree that the 20GA is just as effective in close quarters as the 12 for defensive shooting.
Night stand - Beretta 9mm

I keep my CZ-40 w/12+1 on my side of the bed. Wife has my Sigma 9mm.
On the planned acquisition list for HD, pending arrival of my bonus, are an undetermined number of Hi-Point .40 Carbines with Lasers. I've still been trying to decide between a CZ-97 (.45) or S&W MP (.40).

SW 1006 on the bedside table. 10rds of 180gr Gold Dot HP's, kept loaded in the chamber/mag with the hammer down (SA/DA with a slide mounted decocker). The 5" barrel really helps get the velocity up there and the hogue wrap around grips really make this a controllable full power 10mm Auto.
M4 loaded with 75gr TAP ammo in a full 30rd mag, Eotech 552, and a Surefire 6p white light is located right next to my side of the bed, within 18" of where I sleep. Mag loaded, empty chamber.
My wife has J-frame .38spl loaded with 125gr Gold Dot HP's on her side of the bed (speed loader on hand just in case) and a mag light to keep pointed at the door while she is on the phone with 911. Our little girls sleep upstairs and its my job to get to them and make them safe from any intruders. My wife also has access to a KelTec Sub2000 under the bed, folded in half and unloaded, that she could access if she really needed it.
Having a light as a part of your bedside guns is important because every shot you take, you are ultimately responsible for...don't want to accidentally shoot a family member getting a glass of milk at 3am.

In Norfolk and VA Beach we have the same type of home invasions as the DC area so I have another shotgun in the living room closet and the XD on me or near the door at night when were not in bed.

My go to Gun now is a Maverick 88 Security 18.5" 12ga. Shotgun. It remains within arms reach at all times in my home.
My pistol which is a CZ 82 rests between my wife and I recliner when were a wake, then at bedtime it's rests on a nightstand.
The Maverick is about 2 feet away at bed time to.
I might add when our son comes home on the weekend's he has his AR-15, Mossberg 590, 2 Glocks pistols and 1 KelTec 32 acp pistol in his bedroom next to his bed.
It would''nt pay to break in on this family especialy on the week ends...A.H
P.S. there's a few more guns planted around the house to, but thats due to not haveing room anymore in my gun cabinet.

Currently I have a short barrel pump (NEF Pardner) 12 gauge loaded with 00 in the corner next to my bed. A Keltec 9mm stays on nightstand. Last but not least a GP100 across the room in the chest. It does change every now then.

In my night stand which is locked when I am not at home is a 9mm baby eagle loaded with 115gr. xtp. In my closet is a 12 gauge mossberg pump loaded with 0-0 buckshot. and in my gun safe sitting in a holster stuck to the safe door is a 45 kimber 1911 loaded with 230gr. xtp.
I figure if I am in my house and my room is the safe room it has 2 firearms ready to go. If I were somehow forced to go to my safe and open it right inside the door is one that i can grab to whip out.

First is a Model 12 Winchester Riot gun loaded with 00 Buck ,
next is an HK Sp89 with dual laser system and 60 rnds of 9mm, and if that
isnt enough, then I grab the AR15 with a mounted flashlight and 2-30rnd mags. If it is a Bear , then I grab the Marlin 45-70...
I sleep pretty good.

I have a Ruger Security Six loaded DoubleTap Ammo's 125gr JHP. That should allow me to make it to the 7rd 870 in the closet. The first two will be slugs. The next 5 are 00. The side saddle shell holder has 2 more slugs and 4 more 00. In a prolonged exchange, there's an AR15 with two loaded 30rd mags in the safe.

Seems like some of you are expecting the equivalent of a Swat team breaking into your house at any moment.
To my understanding the firearm should be the last line of defense. Remember defense should be like an Onion, concentric rings within rings.
I reckon that everybody who keeps a gun for home defense should spend some time reviewing their static home defense, ie. lights, doors, windows, locks, gates, grills etc. If you've got a door & locks that some guy wearing sneakers can kick in in 5 seconds, for goodness sake do something about it.
