Perhasps the most important gun one can have is thier go to gun. This gun must be reliable, powerful, and easy to use. What are your guns. I keep 3 loaded ready to rock.
#1 This is my first go to gun. M-1 Carbine 15 rd mag 90gr xtp/hp. I own an ar-15 (m4 style) why the carbine? well less muzzle flash, it holds on target like a 10/22, its easy to clear in case of Jam(You can actually use your foot to clear the action with a kick if you must, easy to check chamber.) , compact,if you ever have to use it it don't have the "assult gun look" wich may help in court. HD issues will not occur at 200 yds wich is the max effictive range of the M1. Ammo is just as cheap anymore as .223 (20 bucks for 50rds!). Its affordable 495 Field grade from CMP! 1300 for the current oly even!!!! I live in the country wear longer range shot maybe needed for HD or for hitting the yoties I like the range of the M1. It hits like a 357 mag in semi auto! At night I don't need the range my heavy 30 cals offer when them yoties come to see me. If I was in town the 12ga would be my go to gun but the country living does require some extra range.
#2 Browning BPS 20ga Micro. Why a 20 instead of a 12? well Basically causeI havn't got a 12 in as short of package as the BPS micro is. its loaded with 5 roundsof buck. Its small its great for the lefty or righty (my wife is a lefty I'm RH). 20ga is a lil better to control. 12ga 20ga its not gonna matter much when ya get hit its gonna hurt if you ask me.
#3 FNH FNP9. well the old 9mm no 40 or 45 I own one of both but get this its loaded with HP's and it holds17 of them. My brother put it the best when he said I have 17rounds with my 9 double taps are very easy to pull off. chances to hit the guy 10-25% of rounds outa a pistol accutally hit. I have 17 chances to get back to my rifle I bet I can keep thier head down with 17 rounds.

While I can't stand the M1 Carbine, if you have a good one that is reliable, it should do just fine at conversational ranges. Your choice of the 20 gauge for close defense is great, the lighter recoil and recovery time is a real plus.
I think you have all the bases covered, anyone would be very foolish to intrude on you. You are "armed for bear" as the saying goes.
All I got is a Hi-Cap 9mm and a 15 pound poodle to alert me in the middle of the night, but if 16 rounds of JHP ammo won't solve my problems, they probably can't be solved.

A very soild bedside battery! Don't let anyone talk smack about the 20, it'll knock the fight out of any thing short of a bear and those usually don't break in.

My primary home defense weapon is the Rem 870 I keep at the bedside.
It's loaded with buckshot, and has slugs on the Side Saddle shell carrier - just in case. 8 rounds of Double Ought should do the job though.
Backup is the Colt M1991A1 in .45ACP and the Ruger Security Six in .357 Magnum.
I can't bring myself to keep a loaded firearm which has easy access to anybody in the house. I do have a 20ga coach gun with a bandoleer easily accessed. Once I get to a safe, I have a Glock 26 loaded in one safe that only I know the combo. The other safes have revolvers S&W 686s and a 1937 S&W 45 DA all with 4-5 speed loaders handy. My 1911 is locked up in a converted travel trailer(RV) where I do my reloading. So if I can't get to a safe I can go out a window. My 45 LCs are usually in the trailer with my 12ga coachgun. So I've got a plan if some fool tries to get past my wife's 7 Aussies and 5-6 odd puppies

By the time you get those guns unlocked, loaded, and ready to fire it will all be over.
I have a Sig .45 and Beretta 9mm at the bedside. This way, I take the .45 to look and see what is going on. If I lose the fight the wife will take up the 9mm or the 6 shot 12 guage next to the bed and continue.

M1 Carbine is light and a very quick on point. I have 3 here never had one problem with them Inlands x2 and IMI I can't speak for the planfields and universals. Also stay away from the 30rd mags. Shoot a M1 carbine at night then the AR M4 style "see" what happens. I keep a xd.40 near the front door, a bersa 380 in the bookshelf between the dining room and kitchen and a 12 mossy loaded with #4 and 00 buck in the side sadle. The rest are in the safe.
Mossberg 500A Tactical model. I can get all 6 shots off accurately in a very small timeframe because of the pistol grip and comfortable stock... I also keep a Kel-Tec 9mm loaded with 10 Hornady hollow-points. If I can't dispose of a threat with 6 12 ga shells and 10 hollow points I'm worthless.

My bedside companion is a 3" Ruger GP100. There is also a G23 and Remington 870 12 ga not far away. The plan was always to have one available for my wife as a backup to me.
Sig 226 40 under one pillow, S&W .38 under other pillow, AR-15 30 round mag Steel core ammo next to me under top cover, remington 1100 12 gauge in corner with Copper plated buckshot, 2 spare mage for 40 on night stand, S&W 469 9mm under towel in bathroom, S&W 586 .357 mag pillow of couch in living room, AK-47 under blanket laid on the other couch in living room with 30 round mag, 2 more spare mags for sig on bar by front door for a quick reload as if i have to chase more of them out of the house. And a few more guns stashed in different rooms and places.
MX sounds like you got things secure there. I have the Loaded SS Champ by me, a Mav 88 in the closet, a Gerber Gator in the night stand, and a 13" Kukuri knife under the bed. I hope that's enough!
