Finally found a new Mini-14 on the rack in a local gun shop. It's a Ranch Rifle, blued/wood; the stock is birch but it has a nice grain to it. It is a 580 series with the new barrel contour in the 78xxx serial no. range. I paid $808 for it. I'm in the 10 day waiting period here in Pelosi-Land.
The Mini-14s are flying off the racks out here. Most of the time you can't find one. If you find one and want it, you humbly pay whatever the asking price is. I originally wanted a stainless, but now in the Obama Era, you take what you can get.
Does anyone know what the inside width of the attached sling swivels is? I'm about to order a sling for this rifle, online. The choices seem to be either 1 inch or 1.25 inch.
Thanks....

For what it’s worth, my Mini-14 looks pretty much like yours plus the addition of a M-16-type birdcage flash suppresser and M-14 type front sight with protective ears (smaller of course). For more stock reach, I added a butt plate extension. The sling is just a black mil-spec sling with military hardware and the mounts are from Wal-Mart. The sling looks and works great. My wood stock handles great and the stock heat shield is probably better than an aftermarket. My friends who have aftermarket heat shields wish they had kept the factory shield. In the meantime, get about 8-10 good mags. Remember the old Clinton ban on magazines.
Roger that Go Navy. I managed to get sixteen mags, mostly Pro-Mag and about four or five USA mags back in the Clinton years. They all work fine. That’s probably far more than I need, but I figure that if the old Clinton Assault Rifle Ban goes back into effect under Obama, it will be easier to get a second Mini-14 than more magazines. Check Sportsman’s Guide or call for their catalog. They sometimes give discounts if you put in a big enough order.

SightnSqueeze, I just bought a Pro Mag 10 rounder today. I want to see how well it works. Let's just say that I have, um, well, a few "pre ban" magazines.

A good supply of mags is always a good thing. In addition to the Mini-14, I have an AK-47 with two Romanian Mags and an aftermarket polymer mag. I probably ought to get a three mag deal from one of the mail order magazines to add to those before they all fall back into that "pre-ban" category again.
