desert shooting spots near phoenix?

Hi guys, I'm just curious where yall go shooting outside of town. I've been going to the desert by Queen Valley since I knew the area fairly well from 10 years of boy scouts but it's about an hour out.

so, what's your spot? I've got 4wd and usually just go out with my shotgun since .357 sig ammo costs more than tuition, not to mention pistol ammo has become very scarce.

When I lived in Tucson, we would go to BLM land and find a safe suitable backstop (dry wash mountians etc.) Be a little cautious about where you run a 4x4 (tread lightly) & some of the washes are actually illegal to drive in. Be courtious and clean up any targets, police brass, all should be good.

I used to go on BLM land, but of course the yahoos screwed it up by polluting the area. So the BLM shut it down to traffic. You can walk in, but it quite a walk to get to the mountains for a backstopl. I'm going to try the new Buckeye range soon.

So BLM land is legal to shoot on? Well those that can be reached. I've been in Phx for 10+ years but only shot at the ranges since the town has spread so much.

I want to find a place too. One that we can just bring sh*t to and shoot and clean it up of course.

BTW, what is the 'BLM' land you talk about?

andyffer, welcome to G&G first off... BLM land is Bureau of Land Management, that is the state govt. agency that "owns" all the open land not owned by the people... like washes and dryed river beds old dunes and mountains...

You gotta be carefull shooting in the desert. I can show you places where there isn't a home for many miles and it is within the city limits of buckeye. You get caught by an butt hole of a cop, and you can be charged with a felony called megan's law. Az use to be a great place to live. To many immigants from the south, east, west and north moved in here. I used the term butt hole of a cop because most cops are logical people, just treatem with respect and you will get respect.
