Is reloading worth it?

As far as time, money, space, tools, and or anything else needed, is it worth it? What if i just try to find the cheapest ammo possible would it be less hassle to do so?

It depends on how often you shoot, if you shoot a handful of times a year, then reloading is probably a waste of effort, but if you are shooting several times a month, then it would be a worthy investment.

Hey it's my Hobby and it's what I do for fun. It ain't like I have to make a living at it.
Most all my loads are cheaper after the initial investment in dies and other tooling.

Ask yourself the same question when most ammo has been banned, or is priced so high that you can't afford to buy much anymore. Not to mention that you can load custom ammo specifically for your weapon(s) that will out-perform over-priced off the shelf ammo. "Cheap" ammo is usually worth what you pay for it.

If components are banned, and you don't have 'em stockpiled, you're screwed. Hence, the panic-buying frenzy of late.

reloading can save you money, i do not do it for the amount it saves me but the accuracy i can obtain. a custom load is alot better than factory ammo, and as already metioned above a hobby and i love to do it you should find a friend and go watch him maybe do a few under his guidence and then you will be hooked, cause it is so much fun.

Generaly speaking, reloading costs me roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of factory new. Not to mention that accuracy is better because I custom reload to my rifles. I mass produce pistol ammo on progressive machines for practice and custom load for competition.

plan on about a 600 dollar startup cost and once you go progressive probably another 1000 and if you decide to cast call it a 2k even investment. I was spending about 200-300 bucks a month on ammo last summer. Now that I reload and cast I still spend about the same amount only I get about 3 to 4 times as much ammo.

Right now Midsouth Shooters has some of the best deals around on almost everything. Try to get your powder and primers locally as a lot of places are now up to as high as a $25.00 Haz-Mat fee.

What calibers do you plan to load for and how much will you be shooting??

A real fun hobbie in itself and lets you make ammo just for your firearms.

I found that Cabela's was the cheapest for the press, dies, scales and other equipment. As for bullets, powders, primers I just keep checking the websites. They change daily. I pick up all my brass at the range. Bring a couple zip lock bags and make sure you ask the range officer. I have never had one say "NO" but I have had them get upset when I just did it without asking.

CHEERS
I use .45's with lead as my example. The cheapest I have seen .45's is $34.99 per 100. I can load 100 .45's less than $10 per 100 if I pick up the brass at the range. I spent about $300 for my press, dies and other gear. Now 9MM's aren't that much cheaper to load but are much cheaper to buy. I spend anout $8 to load 100 9MM's and can buy 100 for about $17. Use those figures and ask yourself how much you shoot. I also weigh in that reloading is just fun. It's not only a money saver but a hobby. You'll feel quite proud when you shoot a nich tight group with ammo you loaded.

Anyway thanks again everyone ima start shopping round for the tools and stuff.

I've been thinking about it too....currently, I'm shooting 7.62 x 54r. Only ammo I can get is Prvi Partizan, and with taxes, I'm paying about 27 bucks for a box of 20 rounds. Ouch! I've got about 200 empties. So here's a real newbie question...how many times can I expect to re-use the brass from the Prvi? Canadian distributors tell me they think they will be able to get military rounds back in, but right now they are unsure, so I'm seriously thinking about reloading.

There are too many variables to tell how long brass will last. I have some that split after 3 loadings. I have some I must have reloaded 30 times. The real question is it worth it NOT to reload?
