Any other thoughts?

Nothing wrong at all w/ the GP100.
I know you wanted a 4 in barrel., but it may be worth your time to check out the Ruger SP101 (.357). I think you can get one in 3.25 inch.
I have it in 2.25 inch and it is a very nice revolver. I later bought another one for my wife - she likes to shoot 38s in it, not 357s.

I have been going to gun shows for a long time, sometimes as a vendor sometimes just walking. I have found the best deals can be had from people who attend the show. Lots of people buy guns on impulse and then find out later they need the money for something else. With this economy there are lots of people needing cash right now. I seldom buy a gun off a table. If you see a guy carrying something you are interested in ask what he will take for it. As far as guns I would stick with the S&W for a revolver, I know that Ruger is just as good maybe better but if you should decide later that you want trade or should need to sale a Smith will outtrade/outsell a Ruger anytime. As for an auto I would look for a Glock, great guns with good resale/trade value. I can usually find Glock 17/22/19/23 for about 400.00 if I look around. Smith 19 or 586 about the same price. 4" barrel revolvers seem to be easier to move if you decide to later. Good luck and be patient.

Anyone else got any? | I do not envy you and the decisions you'll have to make on a good revolver - I mean, there a tons of great guns.
Be sure to let us know if you drop a dime on one.
Good luck,

Hack | If you want to carry the gun I'd look at the SP 101. If you want it more for a home defense/range gun I'd go with the GP 100. I love my GP 100 but it is a bit big to carry in my opinion.

Exciting, isn't it! I always am thrilled to purchase another gun.
Have fun at the range.
Do you reload? I have a Ruger SP 101 in 357 and I reload it with my version of a 38+P.
Buy some 357s and some 38s. You'll really see a difference between commercial 357 and commercial 38.

SWEET!!!!!!! Congrats on your new pistol.
Now may I reccomend you take a pistol training course. Believe me they are worth it. I recently took one. And even after 40 yrs of active firearms shooting, I still learned a few things.

| SOME COMMENTS FOR YOU
IF YOU ARE NEW TO GUNS THE CHOICE OF A REVOLVER WOULD BE LOGICAL FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE BOTHERED MUCH WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A JAM THAT IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR AMONG PISTOLS.
I OWN A TAURUS 6" STAINLESS 357 MAGNUM AND IT WAS NICE TO SHOOT AND MUCH CHEAPER THAN THE S&W IN THE SAME CONFIGURATION. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THE FULL LINE OF TAURUS REVOLVERS IN THIS GUNSHOW. STAINLESS IS GOOD FOR ME BECAUSE IT IS NOT VERY PRONE TO RUST AND DOESN`T NEED MUCH ATTENTION. I BOUGHT THE 357 MAGNUM
BECAUSE I CAN ALSO USE 38 SPL AMMO IN THEM FOR PRACTICE SO I DON`T
GET BEAT BY MAGNUM RECOIL. SO IT IS LIKE TWO GUNS IN ONE.
