I'm gettin a brand new vanguard. Problem is I don't know what I want. Give me some reasons for both calibers... and possibly some reasons NOT get get a certain one, thanks!
two favorite cartridges. The .243 Winchester will give you a capabiltiy to shoot game from smaller sized through deer sized with no problem. The .270 is a bit more in the antelope/deer only range.
Also, the .243 Winchester has a proven track record of combining both inherent accuracy with modest recoil allowing for more practice thus better
performance in the field.
I would go with the .243 Winchester in a heartbeat.
I don't think you can go wrong with either cartridge. I agree with the above when he talked about recoil and practice. The 243 will be more comfortable for practice. With proper shot placement and good bullets it is a fine deer cartridge.
I own both...270 and 243. I would opt for the 243 to start. 7mm/08 would be the best of all worlds. Ammo is expensive though.

I would buy both, and promise you that you will find an application for both. 243 is light on recoil, but when a little extra punch is needed, the 270 is there.
i recently purchased a vanguard (sub moa) in .270. its really easy on the recoil. it kicks less than my 740 rem in .308. they are not light rifles and they come equipt with a super squishy recoil pad. i will agree that the .270 will pack more punch when needed. but it all depends on what you hunt.
