What treaties would we have to sign with the U.S. (the country we just seceded from, mind you), with the attendant loss of treasury and liberties, to prevent that?
A Texas military, while loud, enthusiastic, and bombastic, would not last long against most sovereign nations.
Texas secession is fun to think about, and pound the table and thump the pulpit about, but it's not a practical solution. Now, another Southern secession, that's a different story... | What would keep other countries like Mexico from invading? Armed Texans who would give them no quarter.
Loss of treasury? Are you referring to the endless amount of unbacked paper money being printed by the Fed. This is what we are losing? LOL
Liberties? Texans not only have liberities, they will defend them.

I keep up with his blogs over on world net daily, and in his latest interview he said he could do more on the outside than from the inside of government. He's right. He said he is not interested in any position like that now. Kay Baily or Slick Rick the toll road man.
Texas just passed a budget and there is enough in State funds to cover it, there Arnie lovers.
We still have our guns, love hunting, and need them more in the nightstand.
We Texans would change govt rather than give them up. We've hunted hill country style.
Good government attracts good people, bad government attracts bad people.

Never, ever, ever would I vote a celebrity for a government position. I'd much rather select someone who has experience.

Just wait until Sean Penn runs for President with Alec Baldwin as his VP and Janeane Garofalo as his Secretary of State.

I think Chuck Norris is more qualified than Community organizer/Jr senator Obama. I'd like to see Obama round house kick the way Walker Texas Ranger does. Norris and Nugent 2012!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!

But, to quote a (in)famous Japanese guy. there would be a gun behind every blade of grass. If it happens, i see more than just Mexican Mexicans being eliminated. Japanese slave camps ring a bell? The US has it's states right. Most of the wussy states are up north bordering Canada. It's Canada, whats gonna happen. The states to the south, aside from the growth called California, that border Mexico have more ammo than people and more guns than children.

Oh, nothing really...except that inconvenient little fact that guns outnumber people by more than 3 to 1 in this state, and most of us are quite good with them.

Presumably when Texas seceded the reborn Republic of Texas would hold onto the Abrams and Bradleys theUS Army had there. Plus which, Texas does have a respectable Air National Guard. They also used to have a reserve destroyer squadron operating out of Galveston, but I don't know if that's still based there.
And as ZombieHunter noted, Texas has serious potential for a Swiss Militia system, a lot of ex-military types living there. Mexico would have more to worry about Texas invading them to recover maquiladora factories than Texas would about Mexico trying to invade them!
