Bought a Maverick 88 Security today.

HI Everybody. I had to go to a meeting in Monroe, La. this afternoon and when I left Monroe I dropped back in Acadamy Sports.

I had been in Monroe last Wednesday for another meeting an when it was over I went in Acadamy Sports to look around and see if they had a Maverick 88 Security with 18.5" barrel and they didn't.

Well today they did, when I walked up to the counter there one was, so I said to the clerk I want to buy that Maverick.

He and another co-worker looked at each other and one said it just came in a couple of hours ago.

Anyway I bought it and I am impressed with it. I didn't see any tooling marks and surpriseingly the action was smoother than an 870 Remington Express I own.

They wouldn't nego the price and one of the guys after I bought it said it was going up Monday.

I don't know when I'll have time to shoot it and really, I don't think a range report is important due it being an in inexpensive sawed off shotgun.

I'm impressed with the plastic stocks which don't give any when you put pressure on them.

The price was $189.99 I might add my 2 friends with ffl's quoted me 189 and 190 so I don't think I did bad.

My plans are to keep it in my wife and I bedroom and to carry it when we go off somewhere.

If your interested in one Good Luck because sawed off shotguns are sold out just about every where...A.H

That was a good price, AH.

I picked up a Maverick Field Model at a pawn shop for $150 used. It did look new though. Added the 18.5" barrel to the tune of $81.

I really like it. I hate to say it, but I like more than my 870HD.

Mavericks are the best "bang-for-the-buck" in shotguns IMO.

Good defensive weapon. I got mine at Academy a couple of years ago for 137.00. Sawed off the barrel to 20" and put Tru-glo turkey sights on it. I used to live in Monroe, when I went to trade school there. Loved sinking Miller pony bottles in the lake, and partying with pretty women there.

What sold me on the Maverick was the Walmart where I live had a 20 field model.
I asked the clerk to hand it to me and after looking it over and working the action I was sold on the shotgun.

The 12ga Security want see hardly any shooting though I will step out in the back yard and prolly fire off a magazine full of shells to make sure it operates all right.

I like it and am happy I found one... A.H

I bought some 00 Buckshot this morning at Wally World and loaded up this little Jewel and racked them all out and I was surprised at the speed this pump shotgun loaded the barrel and spit them out.

Haveing 2 870's I beleive the Maverick/Mossberg is faster to load and empty, thats interesting.

I'll shoot it later...A.H

P.S. thanks Guys for the comments too !

I used to have the same 88 home security model.Probably the best 12 ga for the price I've ever owned.Shot literally thousands of rounds through it without cleaning and it performed flawlessly, although the foregrip got a little loose, but never came off or caused a jam.I guess they sell a sweet aftermarket foregrip that solves the loose-prone original.Happy blasting!

Thanks paulstory. I have this sweet Lil Maverick parked by this computer and I can't keep my hands off of it.
It's not heavy and the black/blueing appears to be excellent...The pistol grip fits my mallet size hands perfectly too, my pinky doesn't fall off the grip...LOL

I know the Mossberg 500A is built so the pump is loose like that on purpose. Same idea as the AK-47 being loosely built. It was made to be reliable rather than pretty. I don't know for sure about the maverick, but seeing as how it's almost identical to the Mossberg 500A, I'd say it's supposed to be that way.

I bought one too

I bought one at Academy Sports & Outdoors in Spring Texas for the $189.99 price and while I was in there two other people bought the remaining two they had in stock.

I couldn't leave mine alone though and modified it somewhat. ;-)

Earl I haven't done anything to mine other than carry it around the house and ride it around once. Yes it looks like the one above minus the light ,shell holder and sling.
The wife and I took it on a short trip to where my son lives which is in a state park.

I want to put sling studs on it, if it can be done and maybe one of those elastic bands around the butt stock to hold some more shells.

It's so short and handy to carry around I can't leave it a lone very long.
It is comforting to have around to.

I live out in the country so when you hear a strange sound outside or hear a dog outside groweling and cutting up it'll be nice to take with me if I need to go out at night and look around.

It defenitly is an excellent back up for my only pistol or visaversa.

If a gun can be called cute this one is LOL...A.H

Andrew I checked Wallys special order gun book and they know longer carry the security models.

Before I buy a gun I check to see what Wal marts price is as a reference and they have low prices on the guns they sell. But I've yet to buy one from them because the shops have been cheaper. Ain't that somethin ?

If Wally hasn't sold it, they have a field model in 20ga. for $170 plus dollars, that little shooter will make someone a nice shotgun...A.H
