Yea, well it was just being in the right place at the right time. I'm guessing not too many people know of the K31 rifles. But I guess thats a good thing. Its really hard for me to pass up a $125 rifle that passed initial testing, with an absolutely beautiful bore to go with it.

But what I did not expect was atrocious rust and pitting beneath the fore end of the handguard, as well as a cracked in half handguard. But I wasn't so mad about the handguard, as I was at whoever let the rifle get so pitted. But, I reblued the area, so hopefully it will hold fast, and not continue to rust. It really is a good shooting rifle. Totally worth it.

Looks good JS. Its got a good color. I don't think I will be refinishing the stock on my K31 I reblued part of the barrel. Gun show this weekend, so I'll be keeping an eye out for anything that tickles my fancy.

Iron C,

The rust in the barrel was probably caused by the rifle being left in the hall cupboard of the "soldiers" house for many years, with wet jackets etc stored there. The bore is cleaned often but rarely broken down.

My rifle is quite good, but it was my wifes grandfathers and wasnt stored as the army requested!!

About the rust and corrosion. I noticed when the distributers and retail stores started to run low on K31's 3-4 years ago or so, We started to see rust on there k31s. I think alot of the damage occured on the ship(s) with sea water damage or water damage in storage over here. Century arms , or Samco, or others. Just a guess?.

Ok, here's mine. Serial number dates it to 1954. Paid 89.00 for in in 2004 (heh heh).

I have a Gew. 11 made in 1913 all matcking, and a K31 made in 1954 beech stock all matching. Both have troop tags. The only flaw with the K31 in my opinion is that the guy that had it before me sanded the stock. Again I don't have a camera, so no pics.

Just picked up my second one this past weekend. Nicest one I have ever seen in person. Beautiful troop tag also.

Here's mine. Stocks a tad rough, and the blueing is a little worn but its all matching with a pristine bore.

Any of you know how to date it by the serial number? I'm curious.

Now to get some dies and brass!
