Good Ranges in the Denver metro area?

I currently shoot at the fireing line in aurora just up the street from my house. Where are some other good ranges in the area? A friend of mine comes down from thorton to shoot with me, but it would be nice if we could find a range between aurora and thorton or one in the thorton area. Let me know which ones you think are good.

Also, I have been looking into getting a sm 12 gauge shot gun for home defense. I saw a nice one at the fireing line the other day with a pistol grip, but they wanted $389. I thought that was a little high for a used gun, but what do people in the area think?

Thanks for your response, Jake.

Depends on what you call a "good range", and what you're wanting to do/willing to do/spend.

I like Green Mountain Family Shooting Center, on Jewell just west of Wadsworth. It's a clean, quiet indoor range, even has a 3-lane 100 yard rifle range. Indoors, underground, not as crazy or dirty as The Firing Line.

There's also the Cherry Creek Gun Club, another nice indoor range, but I've never been there. Met a member that raved about it. http://www.cherrycreekgunclub.org/site4.0/

There's a public outdoor range in Aurora at Cherry Creek State Park, never been there, don't want to pay the park entry fee AND the range fee both, plus there's the usual Aurora gangbanger clientele, just like at The Firing Line.

Personally, I find it well worth the expense and long drive to be a member of the Ben Lomond Gun Club in Elbert County, out past Kiowa. Very remote and isolated, private, no idiots, clean (except for windblown dirt), 10 separate pistol ranges (one is 100 yards for rifles too), a covered 100 yard range for rifles only, a 100-600 yard range for high-powered rifles and competitions, a shotgun range, .22 rimfire silhouette range, 100-500 yard lead-only cowboy rifle range, cowboy action ranges, portajohns, picnic and camping areas, new clubhouse in the works. Check it out. www.blgc.org

If you are shooting handguns or small .22 rifles, you can go to the Shootist Pistol range. It is at 2980 S Galapago St, Englewood, CO just North-East of Dartmouth & Santa Fe. They have a nice indoor range. The owners are a nice family. Kind of wierd sometimes, but really nice. They also have a nice handgun selection and some rifles. Ammo, holsters & accessories. The range is in the basement, I believe it is a 30-yard range...They have the electronic target track.

Ranges

I go to Silver Bullet, mostly because it's close to me. It's 25 yards, inside, so better for pistols. During the week works for me so I've no idea how crowded it gets on weekends.
I went down on Jewell once to shoot and by the time the nazi women in charge that day got half through their speech, I walked out. Who needs it. Rules are fine, but BS sucks.

Man, if you can't make it past the sign-in/pay-up part without getting pissed off and leaving, makes me wonder if you're not one of the people that all those rules are in place for to begin with.

I didn't have to sign-in when I went. They just checked my ammo, and I went right into the range area, didn't pay until I came out.

Thumbs down Green Mountain Family RIP-OFF! center

I like the shootist,Silver bullet, firing line, and cherry creek but I hate the green mountain family shooting center it is $21 per 1/2 hour or $42/hour that means I have to go to work for 3hours just to shoot for an hour not to mention ammo cost. The staff I dealt with are a bunch of uneducated morons who have no buisiness in a shooting facility and they charge you twice if you want to shoot pistol and rifle $21 per 1/2 hour rifle and $16 for pistol I have never been to a bigger joke of a shooting range in all my life and ive been to plenty in Minnesota Wisconsin North Dakota Montana Idaho Arizona and New Mexico. This place takes the cake when it comes to a complete frustrating rip-off of an experience. Check other reviews on the net about this place or ask customers at gun stores and gun shows and you will find that this place is barely surviving and its survival is due to the ignorant and the folks who are going for the first time. They are not surviving on repeat buisiness and good customer relations I can guarante you that.

Silver Bullet Shooting Range in Wheat Ridge I think is the best. They are polite and they make sure everyone is safe without the condisending attitude that you see at other ranges. They have cleaned up the place a lot and I got a first rate CCW class there. They taught us how to shoot much better and some tactical stuff like using cover and malfunction clearing.
The range fee was only $16 for an hour. They can get crowded and busy but it's worth the wait. They have some awesome rentals as well like an AR-15 and a pump shotgun as well as a lot of different handguns. I'm signing up for a discount membership when I get paid next week.

Ya know, I used to like Green Mountain and recommended it above, but they've changed in the last few months and gotten assholish. Don't think I'll be going back, and that seems to be a general concensus on the colorado-ar15 board too.

Isn't that the place on West Colfax? EEK! That is right in the middle of the ghetto. I went there a few times, and have seen a number of people shooting their "Glock Nine's" with one hand, and holding it sideways... lol.

If it is pistol shooting you want, The Shootist in Englewood off of Santa Fe & Dartmouth is a lot better, owned by a little hillbilly-type family that is real nice. I go there most of the time for pistols. They have a nice selection of handguns, and a few consignment/used rifles as well. Be forewarned, however. At the Shootist, the range is underground, and accessable only by use of some steep stairs, so if you can't do stairs, then it will be tough.
