Im lucky I guess because our walmart always has 22lr. If I buy 4 boxes of the Remington with 550 in a box , no questions asked. Yet let me also add a box or 2 0f the CCI stingers and it never fails, they always ask if those are for a handgun. What I dont understand is, I can shoot either one in My Sig. Whats the differance? And why do they ask?

My wife who has a little authority in a WM says the law is federal and they are supposed to ask on all dual purpoes cartridges. And she has the final word around here! (except what I can sneak around and do under cover) sam.
I used to know a girl who was being trained to work in the sporting goods dept at Wal-Mart and I asked her about it.
She told me that it was store policy, the question is a prompt that pops up on the register screen.
She didn't know the origins of it and my only guess might be some sort of state reg where such purchases are frowned upon. If they have to do it in a few states they might figure it would be easier to equip all store registers with the prompt, again just guessing.
The last time I bought .22 ammo there I got a hard look when I answered their question with 'probably.'
Maybe they consider Stingers to be Black Talon Cop Killer bullets?

It's a legaleze thing. Folks under 21 aren't allowed to buy pistol ammo - so they are prompted to ask for ammo that can be used for either. I get the same thing when buying 9mm Luger for my High-Point carbine.
Some clerks simply punch up 'rifle' automatically unless the buyer is possibly too young for pistol ammo. Just ignore it - store policy.
^ Thats what i hear Big Dog,......But everytime i go to walmarket they never have my 45 shells and a variety of others are always out. They always say we sold out????? BS...So i always say, you should order more.
They just look at me and say thats all there allowed to receive. Last week i told them this will be the last time i come a askin. I get them at the gun shop now and believe it or not they are cheaper.
I have no proof but I beleive the walton family are actually agents of saten.lol . I don't shop there just because all the money indirectly goes to CHINA and parden me for saying so but screw china.

Since I began reloading every centerfire caliber I shoot, the only ammo I get at Wally's is rimfire - til recently! They haven't had the good Federal and Winchester 550-packs in stock. They had one Remington 325-pack - priced at about $20!!!! I said, "No thanks!" I still have a few 550-packs squirrelled away. Our local Sportsman's Warehouse had been selling it, but even they have been out of stock - their prices ran a bit above what Wally's was selling ammo for.
Even the online sources are scarce. They have the .17HMR and some more specialized .22LR, but not the common plinking types.
This is really putting a dent in my sport shooting!

Everyone buys from China and since the bailouts and congress spending spree a lot of your tax money is going to China. sam.
I was a cabelas yesterday and they were out of alot of the cheaper ammo. Maybe it's been said already but SOMETHING is up and violating our rights!!!!!
Just at w-mart and they were out of the 550 win pks and 526 golden rem's but happen to have the 333 win pks.... bought alot(ACTUALLY ALL OF'EM)---With no regrets of other sorry.... about that other fellow shooter....
The big5 I go to has a big poster about 18 and over for rifle ammo and 21 and over for pistol cartridges. I asked the manager what would stop someone from saying these 9MM cartridges are for my carbine? She looked me square in the eye and said absolutely nothing and that's why it's a stupid requirement.
I still have a hard time associating Wal-Mart with any thing to do with guns.To me it just seems out of place, and tacky.Maybe it's just me,I don't know, anybody else feel this way?
I have bought ammo at the little local gun shop for about the same a Wally World lately.
If the gun shop is higher, I ask if they can do a little better on price. Sometimes they do, sometimes not, but why not ask and support the small business where you can get good guns and information when needed.
Wally world still has no gunsmiths like the local shop does?? for now?

I just don't think that Wal-mart should have guns and supplies at all.It just seems so out of place.
