Just got off the phone with H&R. They don't even have the info. Find it hard to believe that the mfgr doesn't even know. Maybe I've got a collectors item. Oh well I quess I'll just use the date I bought it as its birthday on my insurance.. Thanx anyway guys
I heard from Marlin today... The gun was made for them by H&R for a contract with K-Mart.. Mine was shipped to the K-Mart in Fairless Hills Pa. in 1998... Lord knows where it sat for the last 11 years. Mystery solved....Forgot to add ,I'm in western Massachusetts

checked the Wikapedia site. They say nothing about the period why H&R went out of business. Or that the workers went togeather and bought the assests. The workers reopened the plant under New England Firearms Company. Then after a period having something to do with waiting the time for something to expire. They renamed as H&R 1871. At that point they were bought by Marlin.
