jsmaye- There's no recoil with the 50. A standard 300 win mag recoils only slightly.

I'm a 19 year old college student shooting on the weekends when I get bored; you're a Marine Corps scout-sniper. I think the differing occupations says enough.

+1......The recoil of the 300win isn't all that much to deal with, and the Barrett M82A1 is built to minimize recoil.

I fired a Croatian version of a 50 cal. I think my Mossberg pump loaded with a rifled slug kicked me harder.

^ Sounds right to me. Slugs are bigger and I don't know of any shotgun with more than a small rubber pad to cushion the recoil. I know my Mossberg 500A with a slug is enough to hurt my shoulder for a few hours. My Mosin M38 did that too after about 20 shots. Which is why now I have a rubber pad on it . Now it doesn't bother me one bit. I love it!

I was never affected that much by recoil but then again my second gun after a .22 was a 12 gauge. I Have never even shot a 20 gauge

Chuck Hawks rifle recoil table: A 30lb .50BMG with attachment has 70lbs recoil.A .300winmag with 180gr bullets weighing 8.5lbs has 25.9lbs recoil.A 7.62x54mm Russian using 174gr bullets and weighing 9lbs has 15lbs recoil.I agree,I dont mind the .300win,but I noticed a little rearward motion with the .50BMG. sam.

Looks like I'm gonna blow the hell out of my shoulder tomorrow. Need to sight in a new scope on a 91/30, and to fire my New England Westinghouse and Mauser K98 for the first time. Also taking my .44 mag and .454 Casull to abuse my wrist while I'm at it.

The noise of the M44 bothers me far more than the recoil does. (I admit to being a noise wimp though!)

That's about the only way I can stand to shoot my M44 - with both earplugs and muffs. Even then, the mil spec rounds still bother me a little.

A combination of a little less noise and better accuracy causes me to want to favor shooting my M91/30's over my M44's.

For your cleaning rod for the K98, look on, should be able to get the sight hoot too(if your looking for one)

Mauser Parts & Accessories - buymilsurp.com

You can even get yugo, german, etc

My father and I do alot of dealing with buymil and we have never been let down, Fast shipping, usally pretty cheap and the parts are dead on.

Also this place has any part of a MN you could ever want, dates, Tula or Izzy etc can all be matched on that site to get the right cleaning rod for your 44.

If you really want to "feel" your shoulder..try a NEA Handy Rifle in .500 S&W..they will really reach out and touch your arthritis ... I sighted one in for my Bro and I would rather shoot a M44 any day....
