I've got a question about the trigger pull on the K31. Mine has quite a bit of free travel before it hardens up. Then it's quite precise and not too heavy. Is it normal to have travel before the hard spot? The trigger doesn't flop around or anything, it just travels a bit.
That is very normal. That is what is called a two stage trigger. One stage is light and travels then it stiffens to a crisp trigger pull. If you have seen the new Savage Accutrigger that is what they have developed...a type of two stage trigger. Theirs just has two pieces to it while the military two stage has only one trigger to it.

Yea, if you look at the trigger, you can see the grooves on the top of the trigger that engages. Its a pretty neat design. Pretty simple to take out. All the parts are stuck together. Really pretty cool. I took mine out (left the spring in) and cleaned it all up.

pretty much all milsurps have a "two stage" trigger, i think that in a millitary scenario you are more likely to hold the trigger before/as you aquire the target than in a hunting scenario where where safety is more important.

The Swiss knew what they were doing when they built those rifles with that trigger.any modification to the trigger would be the worst thing you could do to that rifle.Just practice with it,and you will come to love it.

The only stock milsurp rifle I own with a trigger "better" than my K31s is a Swiss K11. Two stage but breaks under 3lb. Too light for sanctioned matches. The K31s have the reputation of having one of the best and most consistent pull of any milsurp. Practice with it a bit and I think you'll grow to love it. If not they do make an after market trigger. Go to "surplus rifles.com" There is an article there with photos on installing a Huber Concepts trigger.
It is ok, I think the rifle is great. by far the best milsurp I have ever bought. I have no problems with the trigger but to someone who had never shot a 2 stage trigger before it could be disconcerting. I taped a piece of something under the trigger on my Mauser before I went and bought a timney, that seemed to take away the 2 stage feel but I would never do it to my K31 it is to perfect where it is.

i like mine way to much to mess with it though. if it bothers you at all, borrow a friends mosin nagant for a day. you'll really appreciate the k31 trigger after that!

I have Huber triggers in a K98 and an M39 and they are a real improvement over the stock triggers especially in the K98. The ones I have were very simple to install but I don't know about the K31. All my K31s have excellent triggers and I doubt that the Huber would be worth the money on these rifles.
