Another Mini-14 w/Pictures

"They" are making me crazy with all the threats of new firearms regulation. There's a legislator here in Taxifornia, for example, who wants to register magazines and require serial numbers on them. But don't worry about that...worry about Congress and the Attorney General.
Anyway, I walk into my favorite local gun store, and there on the rack is the latest model of the stainless, "all weather" Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in .223 I've been looking and waiting for, for months. I just bought a blued/wood version a month ago thinking I had to grab it before the music stops and the politicians outlaw all of them.
So, I bought the stainless model. She's a beauty and is in my gun safe begging to be taken to the range and broken in. Maybe next week.

That's the one a got about 6 weeks ago. I was compelled by the same political winds that you were. I still haven't got a scope but I am really enjoying it so far.

I remember you talking about your blue Mini and wanting the stainless version. I'm glad to see you found one in stainless like you wanted. She looks good.

I only have one Mini-14, but I have twice the mags needed for it. I guess I have no choice now but to buy another Mini-14. Boy, these logistical problems...

Sell me a couple mags. Then you wont have to buy another gun!

I didn't know they were hard to get ... yet. I better hang on to them. I have sixteen total. Most are Pro-Mag. A few are USA Mag, but I haven't had any problems with either brand. What I really need is to increase my AK-47 magazine stocks. I only have three and I would like about eight.

I have a USA mag 30 round that will not feed. I even tried loading only 10 rounds and nothing.

I heard that they could be a problem. I'm guessing it's a problem with the spring and not the body of the magazine or the follower. Again, mine seem to feed OK, but if I ever have a problem with one, I would try to replace the spring before getting rid of the mag.

The big Promags need breaking in. Load it up with 30 rounds and let it sit, then unload it downrange. I ended up doing that and my 30 rounder is working fine now.

To the Original Poster, nice job, you got one of the newer heavier barreled Minis. Both of mine are older, one from 96 and one from 05, and they have the skinny barrels.

Right you are.....that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll send a range report one of these days.

SightNSqueeze, I can eliminate your problem. Just send me a few of those excess mags and I promise to never return them!

Price now days

What would be a reasonable price now with the mini 14 stainless and composite stock. I saw one last week at a gunstore in Georgia for $850 but thought that was too much?

Depend on if it's new or used and what it comes with. A new plain jane Mini from Walmart is $605. I've seen the newer Target Minis going for that. I've also seen some unrealistic prices on Minis, including a Mini-30 for $1100. Seriously, $1100 for a used Mini-30? With one magazine?

Both of my Minis are used. The first was blue/wood stock, $450, included 3 magazines. The newer is stainless/synthetic stock, $550, only had the 5 round magazine. I haven't accurized it, I'm getting it rebarreled with a heavier 20" barrel in 6x45 so I have a nice light deer carbine. They're fun guns, and you can do a lot of cool stuff with them.

That's not out of line, esp. depending your sales tax in Georgia. Here in Taxifornia, I paid $810, plus sales tax on top of that, for a brand new in the box KMini-14 Ranch Rifle, stainless, Hogue Overmolded stock, 5 round mag, and Ruger scope rings and a lock included as per usual.

In Georgia, where I assume the 2nd Amendment is respected, you'd probably get at least one 20 round factory mag with it, which alone could account for the slightly higher price. I say go for it. Make sure it has the new barrel contour, though. Why buy a "new" one which is really older stock still unsold.
